Build a Website: How to Get Started Now
I've done a number of websites for clients over the years. I've talked to many more about websites I never ended up doing. There is a pattern often noticed:
People are stressed about their/their company's website.
People are BS-ing those people about websites.
People need guidance on how to get it done or get started without overspending or letting it consume them.
SO.
If you're exploring a new website or a website redesign, here are simple, actionable ideas to get you going that might also help develop your business (while also helping choose what to do or who to hire).
1) Spend time focusing on Google Search
a) If you haven't yet, create a Google Ads account and use Google Keyword Planner to research all the problems, solutions, keyword search phrases you think your ideal customer will be searching for. Discover keyword ideas with statistics based on location.
b) Build a database or list of website page ideas that will talk about what you offer, or solutions you provide with Google keyword search in mind. Include ideas for page title tags and section headings based on the keyword research. (Maybe take the extra step of Googling how to use headings on your site or title tag optimization.)
Note: SEO is still important, though it only matters if website pages and content contain what people are searching for. I believe getting this going on your own helps in interviewing a copywriter, if that is on your mind. Most importantly, it helps business strategy, brand development, and the order in which the website is built beyond launching a website, based on market needs.
c) Maximize your Google Business Profile so people can better find you - post photos, add relevant services, update contact information, add a booking link or menu. Update it weekly.
*Get as many positive Google reviews as possible.*
2) Content
a) Produce a video about how you serve the market, so potential customers or clients can get to know you and be introduced to what it is you offer.
*If you provide a service or services, you could interview client(s) or customer(s) on camera, and/or film a prospect consulting session where they discuss their pain points and needs. Get permission to use the footage publicly.
b) Post-produce the footage into long-form video. Convert speech to text and use it in the future as a blog on your website. Post-produce the footage into short-form video for posting on social media. Use the content for Google Ads, Facebook Ads, Instagram Ads, and more. Create an ad strategy around content.
Repurpose, reuse, recycle, and remix. Add to it, show people your value, or speak to developments in hot topics.

Continue creating content based on the Google Keyword Research (intent-based search), market needs, or market demand.
Use feedback received to inform your website.
Remember that Youtube and social platforms are also search engines.
Okay, now let's talk about launching a website using the work done above.
3) Website
Launch a website that looks aesthetically pleasing in design, sure. Remember, your website will only be a resource and asset if the web pages load fast, if the website is easy to use or read, and if there is quality, relevant content that provides value. People also have to be able to find the content.
Keep in mind, many companies spend a lot of money to build a fancy website, only to produce content that doesn't embody brand. Embody brand in the content.
Let the content lead the design and further website development, even if it is a minimal design.
Keep it as simple as it needs to be. Simplicity streamlines information and helps a website load fast. Google loves fast-loading websites. Minimal web design helps website visitors (people) navigate your pages and consume content faster. People love this because people do not have time. People are your potential clients and customers.
