Building Additional Sources of Income During Your Career Transition

Building Additional Sources of Income During Your Career Transition

It has been noted that the average millionaire has 7 sources of income. Just as an investor diversifies their risk by having multiple investments, people are realizing that diversifying their incomes is a necessity, giving them flexibility and freedom when the unexpected happens.

It allows them breathing space to make decisions about their next career move from a place of peace instead of a place of panic.

The culture of layoffs is here to stay. Whether we are aware of it or not, companies make decisions about layoffs monthly, quarterly and yearly. It is a regular topic of conversation, more than what many people realize. Layoffs are no surprise. That being said, job security is not as prevalent as it once was so relying on one source of income is an outdated way of managing our finances.

It means that we have to be smarter about how much reliance we have on our employers to pay our bills and to provide us with our ideal lifestyle.

At the end of the day, no company is responsible for our livelihood. Only we are.

During a time of career transition, job seekers have a chance to rebuild their careers and finances in a new way. This opportunity that has been given to them allows them to learn lessons about the circumstances they find themselves in and take action toward building their careers and finances differently. This takes a shift from a victim mentality to a victorious one.

A key offering in our Career Transition Program is to give people the chance to build two independent additional revenue streams. Working with us, gives them the freedom of more time and more energy (energy is another key part of our program). Instead of spinning their wheels on the job market for 40-50 hours week, they will have clear and focused direction from us. With only 8-10 hours per week needed to devote to job search "activities" in our program, they have the time to build their lives in a different way.

When you allow us to lead you in your job search, it frees you from the stress, worry and wasted energy. It gives you the mental clarity and space to do other things including building your finances in a smarter way while learning new skills that add to your development.

What Additional Sources of Income Should You Consider?

Usually, when people think about income during a career transition, they think about taking a lower paying job, a temporary position, a contract role or obtaining consulting work through another organization.

The major fault in these options is that it does not provide you with an independent repeat income that builds over time. You continue to rely on "employment", just a different and less desirable way.

Revenue Sharing

Revenue Sharing is a new concept to "side hustles". It allows you to share the revenue of an established company by referring business to them. There are a number of companies who allow you to revenue share, even giving you the resources and framework to build an independent business with a revenue sharing. It takes away the stress and the years it normally takes to build a business on your own from scratch.

When considering which company to revenue share with, consider the following:

Alignment in Interest and Passions

Just like in our careers, we will be much more successful when our interests and passions are aligned to what we are doing. Choosing companies and industries who align with our core interests means that this endeavour will have longevity and roots. Because it is something you believe in, it becomes part of your purpose to change/shape your community in a way that is meaningful to you.

Values

Just like our careers again, we will be able to flourish when we are not distracted by environments and circumstances that conflict with our personal standards and values. Choosing to revenue share with a company whose way of doing business is reflective of who you are will allow you the space to grow and willingness to refer business to them.

Growth

Choosing companies who either have a growing market or companies you believe have the potential to make a shift in their industries will allow you to be part of the expansion of the business with long-term profitable gain.

Compensation Framework

Understanding how the company allows you to BUILD an income is different that how the company GIVES you income. You want to ensure that there is an opportunity to build on top of an ongoing repeat income. This means that your earnings and efforts are accumulative year-over-year.

Entrepreneurship

For many of our clients, their career transition pivots into entrepreneurship. While seeking a 9-5 on the job market, we coach them through building the foundations for their own business.

Working with us means that we begin to tap into your true desires and what is preventing you from achieving it. For many people, there is a burning desire to have their business but have been conditioned to believe it is not possible or it is too difficult.

Engaging us to coach them to build their own business with multiple streams of income in it, gives them a higher sense of fulfillment and purpose. There comes a time either during their career transition or their 9-5 that they finally make the decision to put their full effort into their new business.

When considering whether entrepreneurship is for you at the time, consider the following:

Are you missing a sense of fulfillment in your 9-5 no matter what role or company you find yourself in?

Do you find yourself feeling sickened by the 9-5 and under the leadership of others?

Has there been other passions in your life that gave you a sense of purpose and fulfillment?

Do you have a healthy relationship with money, with the ability to steward your resources, releasing fears and truly believing in your ability to create and attract wealth?

Do you have a sense that a specific purpose lives withiin you and the corporate world is not allowing you to release it?

These are only a few of the questions I discuss with my clients before as they make their decision about entrepreneurship. For some, "testing the waters" of their new business while they are working their 9-5 will give them the confidence they need to take the plunge.

For others, like myself, we realize that giving our energy to our 9-5 was depleting the energy we needed to climb the mountains of entrepreneurship, making the journey enjoyable, not exhausting.

Although we are all in different space in our relationship with money and our confidence to be able to build wealth, one thing remains: having additional sources of income is no longer a luxury.

Working with us means that there are no limits. We believe in building your career and finances well beyond "helping you get a job", that sets you up for long-term career success and financial freedom.
