Building a good character is a complex process...How were you parented?
Building a good character is a complex process that involves various factors such as personal values, beliefs, and behaviours. Here are some tips that can help you build a good character:
Remember, building a good character is a lifelong process, and it requires effort and dedication. By practicing these tips, you can become the best version of yourself and make a positive impact on those around you.
Like him or dislike him is not the point here: Jordan Peterson is a Canadian clinical psychologist, and professor of psychology, he has written and spoken extensively on a variety of topics, including courage and faith. Here are some key points he has made on these subjects:
Courage:
Peterson believes that courage is a crucial virtue that enables individuals to face their fears and overcome obstacles. He argues that true courage requires both bravery and wisdom, as individuals must have the courage to face difficult situations and make difficult decisions, while also having the wisdom to know when to be cautious and avoid unnecessary risks.
Peterson has also emphasised the importance of confronting one's fears and taking responsibility for one's actions. He argues that individuals must be willing to face the consequences of their actions and accept the risks that come with pursuing their goals.
Faith:
Peterson has spoken about faith in various contexts, including religious faith and faith in oneself. He has argued that faith can provide individuals with a sense of purpose, meaning, and direction in life. He has also suggested that religious faith can provide a framework for moral and ethical behaviour, helping individuals to live according to their values and principles.
However, Peterson has also criticised what he sees as the dangers of blind faith, arguing that individuals must be willing to question their beliefs and be open to new information and perspectives. He has suggested that faith should be balanced with reason and critical thinking, rather than being blindly accepted without question.
Overall, Peterson's views on courage and faith emphasises the importance of personal responsibility, facing challenges with bravery and wisdom, and pursuing goals with a sense of purpose and meaning.
When we become a parent, we have a responsibility to our children to set them up! Unfortunately, we are not doing a good job, we have a growing number of children heading down a very dark and narrow path. If we take the internet for one, content is readily available and not all parenting styles are equal! Tip: In the absence of rules people will make up their own the same could be said for boundaries
Uncomfortable conversations with children are important and they must be had. However, in the 21st century the black and white conversation and rule through fear has less stickability, as does the autobiographical conversation with children. Children are influenced by far more noise than ever before, as a parent you need to find the key to "what sets you apart" from all the noise, so they will listen to you and your guidance.
Developing good character and courage in children is a gradual process that requires consistent effort and positive reinforcement. Here are some tips to help promote good character and courage in children:
1. Lead by example: Children learn by example, so it's important to model good behaviour and character traits yourself. Show them what it means to be kind, honest, respectful, and courageous in your own actions.
2. Encourage positive behaviours: Praise children when they exhibit positive behaviours such as honesty, kindness, and respect. This reinforces these behaviours and encourages children to continue exhibiting them.
3. Teach empathy: Help children develop empathy by encouraging them to put themselves in others' shoes and consider their feelings. This can help them develop a greater sense of compassion and understanding towards others.
4. Encourage responsibility: Teach children to take responsibility for their actions and their consequences. This can help them develop a sense of accountability and integrity.
5. Foster independence: Encourage children to take risks and make decisions on their own. This can help them develop confidence and courage.
6. Encourage perseverance: Teach children the importance of perseverance and resilience in the face of challenges. Help them develop problem-solving skills and encourage them to keep trying even when things get difficult.
7. Foster a growth mindset: Encourage children to adopt a growth mindset, which emphasizes the importance of effort, learning, and growth. Help them develop a positive attitude towards learning and encourage them to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth.
Remember, developing good character and courage in children is an ongoing process that requires patience and consistency. By providing positive role models, reinforcing positive behaviours, and encouraging independence, responsibility, and perseverance, you can help children develop the traits and skills they need to become confident, compassionate, and courageous individuals.

Tip: If you or your children do not have goals, something to works toward and a level of excitement to achieve those goals, the dopamine receptors look for a top up! This is one of the reasons for poor habits…resulting in addiction
