Building Together for Justice: Celebrating Our Partnership with Lioness: Justice Impacted Women's Alliance this Giving Tuesday

At Build Up, Inc., the nonprofit fiscal sponsor and capacity building arm of the Build Up Companies , we have the incredible privilege of working alongside some of the most inspiring grassroots organizations in existence. To that end, we continue to be humbled by the work of our sponsored project Lioness Justice Impacted Women's Alliance , which remains as a shining example of what possibilities can become reality when passion meets purpose. As their fiscal sponsor, we’ve watched JIWA bring their mission to life in powerful ways, and we couldn’t be prouder to support their journey. As part of our lead up to Giving Tuesday, we want to highlight the work of Lioness: JIWA and encourage continued support for the organization.

Lioness Justice Impacted Women's Alliance , simply put, is more than an organization. It is a movement led by currently and formerly incarcerated girls, women, and gender-expansive individuals in Texas who are fighting for justice, equity, and systemic change. Their work addresses the deeply rooted injustices within the criminal legal system, and their courageous leadership—rooted in lived experience—is driving real, transformative advocacy.

From raising awareness about inhumane prison conditions to pushing for reforms like ending solitary confinement, Lioness: JIWA doesn’t just make noise—they make a difference. Their efforts to create a world where justice-impacted individuals can thrive free from harm inspire all of us to think bigger, dig deeper, and act boldly in the name of our collective humanity.

Working alongside Lioness: JIWA has been monumental, both for Lioness: JIWA as well as for us at Build Up, Inc. Supporting their mission has meant more than handling the administrative back-end of the organization (e.g. the financial management, compliance with IRS procedures, and operational structuring); it has meant empowering the organization to focus on what they do best: uplifting and advocating for their community.

As they shared with us:

"This partnership between Lioness and Build Up, Inc. has been a game-changer for building capacity. With Build Up, Inc. handling the administration, we've had the chance to focus on what really matters while also learning the ropes of nonprofit management. Through this relationship, we've gained practical knowledge on structuring our operations, managing finances, and staying compliant—all the things that lay the foundation for a sustainable organization."

It’s been incredible to witness and support Lioness’Lioness’s growth while gaining the skills and tools to lay the groundwork for becoming a 501(c)(3) nonprofit themselves. As they prepare to transition as an independent tax-exempt organization, we continue to marvel at their drive to build a sustainable structure while staying true to their mission. Their dedication shows how grassroots leadership can transform into lasting change.

As they put it so beautifully:

"Thanks to this collaboration, we're equipped with the tools and understanding needed to stand on our own while continuing to uplift and advocate for justice-impacted communities."

At Build Up, Inc., we believe in the power of collaboration and capacity-building to create long-term impact. Lioness’s journey is a testament to what’s possible when organizations are given the tools and support to thrive. It’s not just about helping them succeed today; it’s about ensuring they can lead the charge for justice tomorrow and beyond.

We are honored to play a part in their story and excited to see them soar to new heights.

To everyone reading this: if you want to be part of a movement that changes lives and reforms systems:

Together, we can build up organizations like Lioness and help them make the world a better place—for all of us.

Keep building bravely,
