PUBLIC SPEAKING TIP

Common in standup comedy, a callback is a powerful technique in presentations that helps reinforce key points and build audience engagement by referencing something previously mentioned. Here’s how to use callbacks effectively:

  1. Identify Key Points: Choose critical ideas or memorable moments to bring up again later in the presentation. These could be a key statistic, a story, or a humorous point you want the audience to remember.
  2. Incorporate the Callback at Relevant Moments: Refer back to these points at strategic times to strengthen your message. For example, after explaining a concept, later in the presentation, bring up how that concept ties into a new section. This can help your audience make connections and recall important details.
  3. Use Callbacks in the Conclusion: Conclude your presentation by circling back to an earlier story or theme, helping to emphasize your main message and leave a lasting impression.

Callbacks create a sense of cohesion and can make complex presentations more memorable by weaving a narrative thread throughout.

Have a great week!
