Business Idea: Dragon Ball AR

Business Idea: Dragon Ball AR

Nowadays, we have all the technology to make the 7 Dragon Balls real and working. This could lead to the most insane game ever!

The game concept

7 orange balls are dispersed in the 4 corners of the world. Who manages to gather all the 7 balls will be able to summon Shenron, the almighty dragon who can fulfil 1 wish!

The balls are NFTs displayed on your phone via Augmented Reality technology (AR).

Even Pikachu is searching for the dragon balls!

Shenron is an AI still displayed via AR. He can make you rich by giving you the prize pool generated by the game’s revenue. He’s also capable of auto-minting NFTs that can still make you rich. Furthermore, Shenron can make you famous by casting your face on all the game’s social media channels. Will you choose wealth or fame? Or maybe you will opt for generosity by asking the dragon to send the prize pool to charity?

Once summoned, Sharon will be available for 5 minutes only, during which the lucky player can also inquiry the dragon just like people now inquiry ChatGPT. Once the wish is realized, the dragon will disappear and the dragon balls will be sent to the 4 corners of the world, inactive for 1 year. However, they will become visible on the radar already after 6 months, otherwise people will forget about the game.

One top game, many side leagues

The top game will be one for all the people on earth. Everyone will compete for the same 7 balls, making them ultra precious! However, players will be able to create their own private leagues too, similar to private tables in PokerStars Home Games or private battles in Fortnite.

Private players can set up their own entry fees and their own rules, as well as choose the radius over which the balls are spread. It can be as small as their own homes. Think of it as a manga style treasure hunt!

When you've got the balls, you've got everything!

Revenue Model

The revenue can come from players paying to have an active account capable of summoning Shenron. It can be a yearly fee. A small fee from private games also goes to create the general prize pool.

A kickstart prize pool might come from an initial fundraising. This should be considered as marketing expenses to generate interest around the game.

‘Collect all 7 dragon balls and win $1M!’

It’s always catchy!

Premium features also possible, like being able to detect the dragon balls over a wider range, up to the entire planet.

Additional revenue can come from advertising on the app.

What we need to build this?

First, we need Akira Toriyama and Bird Studio/Shueisha’s consent and copyrights, but I don’t think this is a problem.

DragonBall AR is going to be a Web3 game, a true dApp. Users retain their own data.

These are the technologies involved in Dragon Ball AR:

  • AR for Shenron and the dragon balls
  • GPS, to position and locate the balls
  • Google Earth API, to visualize the balls’ locations across the planet
  • Blockchain to mint the official dragon balls (Polygon? ImmutableX? Arbitrum?)
  • AI to power Sharon’s interaction with players

Social media channels to keep engagement around the game: Twitter, Instagram, Discord, Mastodon, Threads, Facebook, Reddit

Professionals and tools needed:

  • 3D Animator for Shenron
  • 3D designer for the dragon balls
  • AR engineer
  • AI engineer
  • Blockchain developer
  • UI/UX designer
  • No-code platform to put all together and save on development
  • ChatGPT for general consulting
  • GPT’s API for Shenron?
  • Social Media Manager
  • Minimum hosting space, as accounts will be anonymous custodian wallets on the blockchain

Cons and Risks

  • Billions of people competing for the same 7 items could discourage folks to enter the game. Consider creating also national leagues, where people have to collect 7 balls dispersed across their national territory. This would make the game more accessible and easier for many folks who cannot afford to travel across the whole planet.
  • The World League (main game) might scatter the balls in dangerous or inaccessible regions. If that happens, we may see people risking or losing their lives in the attempt to retrieve the ball. This could cause bad reputation to the game.
  • Some frustrated politician might witch-hunt the game to gain easy votes (see Rand Paul vs Anthony Fauci or Elizabeth Warren vs cryptocurrencies). They might call for regulating (aka banning) the game and accusing it of reckless behaviour among players and/or money laundering (prize distribution).

Yes, you may find me on Instagram, but I hate it. Why don’t you add me on LinkedIn or on Reddit, my latest discovery?
