Butte's Own Phillip Wortham Named Fellow by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare
BUTTE, MT – Phillip Wortham, MBA, BA, CHSOS-A, FSSH, Chief Clinical Simulation Officer at PRAXIS in Butte, Montana, has achieved a historic milestone as the first Fellow named to the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) Academy from Montana and its surrounding states of Idaho, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Utah, and Nevada. This prestigious honor recognizes his extraordinary contributions to healthcare simulation and patient safety.
The SSH, a global non-profit organization founded in 2004, is dedicated to advancing simulation technology in healthcare education, training, and research. Its Academy honors individuals whose sustained impact has driven innovation and excellence in the field. Fellows are regarded as thought leaders, mentors, and ambassadors of simulation-based healthcare.
“Being named a Fellow by the SSH Academy is a testament to Phillip’s exceptional leadership and dedication to advancing healthcare simulation,” said Ray Rogers, CEO and Founder of PRAXIS. “His work continues to shape the future of healthcare training, particularly for rural practitioners.”
A Vision for Rural Healthcare Innovation
Since joining PRAXIS in 2022, Wortham has been spearheading the development of a groundbreaking $35 million, 35,000-square-foot healthcare simulation training center in uptown Butte, Montana. Designed as a simulated hospital and clinic, this state-of-the-art facility is the first in North America explicitly dedicated to addressing the unique training needs of rural healthcare providers.
Upon its completion, Wortham will step into the role of Chief Operating Officer, continuing his mission to ensure rural practitioners have access to cutting-edge training that enhances patient safety and care quality.
A Career Defined by Leadership and Excellence
Wortham’s career spans over 15 years of leadership in healthcare simulation, innovation, and operations. His journey began at Denver Health Medical Center, where he specialized in biomedical engineering. He later played a pivotal role in designing state-of-the-art simulation centers at Children’s Hospital Colorado.
As Director of Operations and Technology at Intermountain Healthcare in Salt Lake City, he oversaw a simulation consortium serving 24 hospitals and 185 clinics. Later, as Chief Operating Officer at the Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation (CAMLS) in Tampa, Florida, he contributed to one of the world’s premier simulation centers.
Currently, Wortham also serves as an Accreditation Site Reviewer for the SSH, reflecting his influence in advancing simulation on both national and international levels.
Recognizing a Trailblazer in Healthcare Simulation
Fellows of the SSH Academy are celebrated for their commitment to mentorship, thought leadership, and advocacy for simulation in healthcare. Wortham’s induction as a Fellow aligns with the Academy’s mission to ensure high-quality, safe healthcare through simulation.
