Buyerology x mySpike - case study success!

Buyerology x mySpike - case study success!

Does Buyer-ology work?”

I was recording a podcast yesterday and Joshua Kennedy the interviewer was asking me for examples of where I have used my own model to win business for my clients (check them out on You tube)

And, at the time, I was in the eye of the storm of a major retailer launch which had been mentioned by the trade press before the embargo and I was panicking!  Fortunately, Lakeland are so excited about the launch that it is already live on their website – so we are good to go to talk about it!

So, let me share with you how the Buyer-ology model (BUYER) worked for mySpike – the new kitchen essential now available in selected Lakeland stores and online

B is for Building awareness

I first met Lakeland at a @product guru event in January.  They were there to buy gift food and so I had the “wrong” buyer.  BUT she had already seen mySpike on Instagram and was very happy to pass on my details to the buyer

I followed up the lead with some more information and the buyer was very responsive

At the same time, we entered the Housewares awards 2024 and were highly commended alongside Prestige and Circulon – another building block in the building awareness stage – gaining recognition

U is for unique selling proposition

mySpike IS unique in the market place being a premium kitchen essential that you can cook a stack of food on whether that is a sharma kebab, veggie stack or even a whole chicken .  We worked on creating a presentation for Lakeland that highlighted why it was perfect for their business and even offered exclusivity as this is our first major retail multiple listing

 Y is for Yes!

I wouldn’t dream of sharing the negotiations that we went through with Lakeland but suffice to say they were very fair and thorough.  mySpike had all their ducks in a row (or spikes!) and we could answer all of their questions about factory certification, product specifications and even designed the retail ready packaging, just for them

 E is for Execution

The first 14 days are critical in any launch and we went live on Saturday.  We are in 5 stores and online which means we will be visiting each of the stores and also testing out the online shop to make sure it all works.  We will also of course be encouraging our friends and family to go buy the products and to ensure it is a success from day 1!!

And of course we have worked on the stock to ensure that we can keep our service level  in tip top condition!

R is for Reorder and Reviews

Nothing drives reorders like good reviews and we are focusing on encouraging our customers to leave a review on the Lakeland website to ensure we get feedback and also of course lots of 5* to encourage sale

We will also be supporting the launch with digital marketing, PR and further activity to drive sales and have mySpike flying off the shelf

And for me personally, a very touching testimonial from Veebha Parmar , md

“ I just wanted to share with you how wonderful it is having you by my side with mySpike. We started few months ago and I'm so grateful that I finally took this step. We have probably been in conversation for over 2 years prior. Wish I had taken this step earlier. We have already got Lakelands as a retailer and have been recognised in the Houseware Awards as Highly Commended Cookware Product of the Year, Karen has helped the awareness grow in my product. I am really excited to see where we are going next. I have done different things with mySpike and felt I didn't get far. Where once we knew what we were doing with Karen and she understood my goals and just got on with the research. This has taken off a lot of pressure from me. I just need to provide the assets and Karen contacted everyone. I highly recommend Karen as she has the knowledge and contacts. Thanks Karen look forward to more....”
