Cafe Culture in Cape Town - Best places to work from when you can work from anywhere

I work in a decentralized team. The "work from anywhere" lifestyle - our company is head quartered in the beautiful city of Cape Town and is also where I end up spending most of my time during the year.

Cape Town is the perfect travel destination for digital nomads - a perfect balance of spending time outdoors, exploring an exciting city, meeting motivated people at events and still getting work done.

I've spent a lot of time moving around from different cafes, restaurants and sky bars trying to figure out the best spots to suit my work style and tastes - dependent on good wifi, strong coffee and a great atmospheres.

So here's a list of my favorite places, please leave comments of your own suggestions too!

1. Cafe Neo - Seapoint

One of my top favorites. Sit at a table on a balcony overlooking the ocean and Mouille Point lighthouse on a beautiful sunny day. Best WiFi for calls, it's fast and the restaurant is usually not very loud. Also, it's dog friendly, which makes it even better.

2. The Yard - the Waterfront

BEST COFFEE from Rosetta in the Yard. Also a good stable WiFi, super friendly staff and a beautiful spot to work from right by the Silo hotel and Zeitz MOCAA (Free admissions to South Africans on Wednesday).

3. Olways - Claremont

I love spending full days here, it's very calm with good WiFi and frequented by a number of other professionals having meetings over big glass pots of tea. They open earlier than most places in Cape Town (07h30) and the tea collection and vegetarian food is incredible.

4. Cloud 9 boutique hotel rooftop - Gardens

Perfect 360 degree views of the city, harbour, Table mountain and Lions head - best to work from here in the mid to late afternoon, watch the sunset then order a glass of wine and relax after a long day. Great to meet with clients in the evening.

5. SMAK Delicatessen - CBD

Inner city working a little further down the lively Bree Street. The food, coffee and wifi is great and the atmosphere is "young professional" lively. Frequently used for business lunches.

6. Field Office (Neighborhood edition) - Woodstock

Cosy and casual, frequented by a variety of locals throughout the day who want to catch up on their work with decent wifi and drink a good cup of coffee. Also dog friendly. (Salisbury road)

7. Bootleggers - Kennilworth

This one is usually a little more out of my way but a great place to stop for a quick bite or coffee in between meetings further out of town. It's part of a chain of Bootleggers in Cape Town, all with decent wifi and amiable working space, it's usually a bit too loud for calls.

8. Truth Coffee - CBD

Probably some of the best coffee in Cape Town, decent wifi and super interesting environment to work from. There's a big coworking type table in the middle and good music. Only down side is it's frequented by tourists throughout the year so it gets a bit too loud if you need to have calls.

9. Knead Muizenberg - Muizenberg

An early morning surf, followed by a great breakfast to start off the working day in the right way. The bakery at Knead has some amazing food and coffee to keep your energy high while you sit and work with a view of the ocean before you.

10. Rise Cape Town

It's not a cafe, it's a co-working office at the Woodstock exchange where you can rent out desk space. They frequently have interesting events and meetups and there's always super cool people and companies around in the space.
