As a kid growing up in The Bronx, I rode with my father many times on New York City buses. He was a bus driver for over 20 years, and always cared about the safety of passengers and bus operation. He understood the importance of being a good steward of the bus, of greeting each customer with a warm ‘hello’, of stepping off to assist an elderly passenger, all of which separated the traveler experience on his bus from the rest.

While transportation is in my blood, never did I imagine one day running a critical, regional asset like Akron-Canton Airport. Despite the pandemic, this regional economic engine keeps running; over the past few weeks, we revealed our expanded concourse, modern amenities, and welcomed the return of nonstop seasonal service to Ft. Myers and Tampa.

Northeast Ohio residents considering air travel can rest assured that CAK has created the safest environment possible. As Ohio’s first airport to be awarded the Airport Council International Airport Health Accreditation, we are proud to be recognized for our commitment to our customers. The accreditation is based on evidence that CAK is following best practices and has implemented key measures to prevent further spread of COVID-19. A huge congratulations to our custodial and building maintenance team for their tireless work before, during and since the onset of the pandemic.

Terminal Modernization Debut

ACI Airport Health Accreditation

We recently became the first airport in Ohio to receive accreditation under the Airports Council International (ACI) Airport Health Accreditation program.

ACI’s Airport Health Accreditation program assists airports by assessing new health measures and procedures introduced as a result of COVID-19.

Areas of assessment for accreditation include cleaning and disinfection, physical distancing (where feasible and practical), staff protection, physical layout, passenger communications and passenger facilities. Read more here.

720 Market Event
