Introduction:

The Journal Strategic Change invites researchers, scholars, and practitioners from various disciplines to contribute to a special issue exploring the fundamental question of "What makes business good?" and the concept of "Organizing for Social Good." This call for papers seeks to engage with innovative research, theoretical frameworks, empirical studies, and practical insights that delve into the intersection of business and social impact. We aim to foster a multidisciplinary dialogue that advances our understanding of how businesses can contribute to societal well-being while maintaining their financial viability.

Background:

Businesses are integral to the fabric of society, playing a critical role in driving economic growth, employment, and innovation. However, the pursuit of profit often overshadows the broader societal implications of business activities. Consequently, there is a growing recognition that businesses should embrace a more holistic approach—one that considers the welfare of stakeholders beyond shareholders, including employees, customers, communities, and the environment.

The concept of "Organizing for Social Good" encompasses the idea of intentionally designing business strategies, structures, and practices that contribute to positive social outcomes. It involves reimagining the purpose of business beyond mere profit maximization and aligning organizational activities with broader societal goals. This special issue aims to explore the various dimensions of organizing for social good and shed light on the factors that contribute to the overall goodness of business.

A strategic and authentic approach to CSR, aligning it with core business objectives and measuring its impact transparently, are more likely to achieve meaningful and sustainable outcomes. But organisational authenticity is difficult to gauge. Morals, values and ethics provide individuals and societies the underpinning for the frameworks shaping behaviours, and create understanding of what is considered good or desirable. Authors should consider what good means in their context and how their contributions create or influence the ‘good’ work of an organisation.

Potential Topics:

The Journal SI welcomes original research papers, conceptual articles, case studies, and reviews that may include (but are not limited to) the following topics:

1. Ethical business practices and corporate social responsibility

2. The role of leadership in promoting social good within organizations

4. Impact investing and social entrepreneurship

5. Social innovation and technological advancements for societal benefit
