Can I change my insurance agent without changing companies?

The short answer is yes. A BOR change in insurance is when a policyholder changes their broker of record (essentially changes agents but not companies). This is the person or entity who is authorized to act on the policyholder's behalf in all matters relating to their insurance policies. The BOR letter is a document that formally authorizes the new broker to act as the policyholder's BOR.

The BOR letter is typically required by insurance companies in order to process a change of broker. The letter should include the following information:

  • The policyholder's name and contact information
  • The name of the old broker and the date the policyholder's relationship with the old broker ended
  • The name of the new broker and the date the policyholder's relationship with the new broker began
  • The lines of insurance that are being transferred to the new broker

Once the BOR letter is signed and submitted to the insurance company, the new broker will be able to access the policyholder's account and make any necessary changes to their policies.

There are a few reasons why a policyholder might want to change their BOR. For example, they might be unhappy with the service they are receiving from their current broker, or they might have found a new broker who offers better rates or coverage.

Changing your BOR is a relatively simple process. If you are unhappy with your current agent, give us a call or shoot us an e-mail and we can see if a BOR is possible.
