Can Juicing Cause Weight Gain?
Will Juicing Help You Lose Weight Or Gain It?
That's a great question. And the truthful answer is…that depends.
When we juice we are deprived of all of the gut supportive and sugar balancing benefits of the fiber of the fruit. This increases the sugar load on our body. And not all fruits and vegetables are created equal when it comes to how much sugar they are made of.
To the body, sugar is sugar…Sugar all spikes the release of insulin and when insulin is spiking our body turns off its ability to burn fat.
And, as we reach midlife our body becomes more insulin resistant. So we have to become more aware of how much sugar we consume.
So although juices can hold many health benefits, and are super tasty and a refreshing treat, it's best to consume those with less sugar.
Juices made with green vegetables, lemons, limes, cucumbers and herbs as great ingredients to play with and keep reading for ideas on how to add a little sweetness in moderation to your green drinks.
Fruits to Help Sweeten Your Green Juice
Green juice is a great way to get many of the important body repairing nutrients. If you've looked into what it takes to make a really nutritious or medicinal green juice drink, then you’re probably aware that many of these drinks require some pretty bitter ingredients. When you add a strong-tasting vegetable to the mix, the flavor will take on a bitter or intense flavor that might have you wrinkling your nose in apprehension, but there are ways to change that. The purpose of this article is to show you a few fruits to help sweeten your green juice.
Apples
Apples are essentially one of the world’s most known and recognizable fruits. They are high in nutritional content and important agents that help reduce the risk of a wide variety of diseases. Pectin and other agents in apples give them the ability to help rid the body of toxins, as well as carry wastes to disposal sites in the body. They are a great source of sweetness that will add a comfortable and familiar flavor to any type of drink you choose, and they are particularly good at helping to mellow out the taste of bitter vegetables like kale. They are a bit high in sugar however, although green apples have less.

Blueberries
These tiny blue fruits are extremely high in antioxidants. That makes them great for helping your body to fight off diseases like cancer which can result from genetic damage done by the reproduction of faulty cells in your body. They are high in vitamin content. Blueberries are excellent additions to any drink, and they can be kept for longer periods when frozen. Crushed frozen blueberries can also make a great dessert for the entire family!
Raspberries
All berries are packed full of antioxidants and flavor while being lower in sugar than most other fruits. They provide potassium, B-vitamins and omega-3 fatty acids. They also contain a mineral called manganese, which is necessary for healthy bones and skin and helps regulate blood sugar.
Orange
Oranges are a lower glycemic fruit if you are looking to add a little sweetness to your juice, but the traditional full cup of orange juice can pack quite a sugary punch to your body. It comes in at 24 grams of sugar. Keep in mind that the recommended daily allowance for women is 24 grams of sugar a day. The costs of this morning beverage far outweigh the benefits of Vit C when consumed as juice. Eating a full orange comes in much better at 9 grams approximately.
Shop Wisely
So the next time you are shopping for a juice at the local juice shop. It’s a good idea to look at those high in green vegetable content, the use of lemons and herbs to add a zing to the flavor and just a wee bit of the more sugary fruits if weight loss is your goal.

2yYESSS!! I love this and agree with everything you say! Just going for a "fruit juice" is not the same as getting green / vegetable juice. Also, I've noticed that in some juice/smoothie bars they add pre-bought juice, probably made from concentrate, which has very low nutritional value, apart from carbs. Any thoughts about the integrity of juices when they've been packaged and standing in a fridge for a day or two?

2yKim Jacques that was an excellent read. Really enjoyed it along with learning how mid life and sugar just don’t mix very well. Thank you 💖

2yDefinitely more sensitive to sugar. Even sugar in fruit! I drink green juice occasionally, but always prefer smoothies!

2yKim, an important reminder how sugar is not always our friend!
