Can You Be Ruthless with Yourself?
ARE YOU REALLY RUTHLESS?
In this article, you'll learn: What being ruthless is and why you need to have it.
INTRODUCTION
Ruthless is one of my favorite words. It has a lot of negative connotations like cruel and unforgiving. It sounds bad but it’s how you need to be if you want to start getting your way in life.
A lot of people want to be nice and are more concerned about making people like them instead of getting what they want. “Nice” used to mean the village idiot years ago. Would you rather be an idiot or a ruthless person?
IS BEING RUTHLESS BAD?
I’m not suggesting you go out of your way to be rude to people. What I am telling you is that you should not compromise the things you want just to please someone else. The reality is that a lot of people live their lives that way.
Why?
Because most people have given up on their dreams or are too afraid to have any—but that’s not you. Someone like that will not understand your desire to be successful. That’s why you need to be ruthless when it comes to your friends and family. People will take you down if they’re not on your side.
WHY YOU NEED TO BE RUTHLESS
Some don't know where they stand—they might not like the idea of you becoming successful because it’s threatening to them. You achieving success reminds them that they have given up on their dreams and ambitions.
Only a small percentage will be active haters, the rest will be well-intentioned individuals that want the best for your but live in fear. My mom was like that. She told me that every business that I wanted to start was a bad idea.
No matter what level of success I achieved, she would always think my next venture was too risky or that I would get hurt again.
How do you handle situations like that?
HOW I'M RUTHLESS
For me, I wrote a script of questions and answers that I wanted my mom to say. I trained her on how to respond to my ideas in a positive way.
There’s going to be people that you need to cut off that will never understand your obsession with success. You have to hang around with those that want what you want and don’t make time for people who have given up. It’s that simple.
There are 2 groups of people, one pulling for you and one pulling against you. Be ruthless—cut out the negativity because you don’t have time for it if you’re working towards your dreams.
THE MOST IMPORTANT PERSON TO BE RUTHLESS WITH
You have to be able to say no to people but most importantly to yourself. Say no to things that are not what you want. Stop being nice to please someone else. How about you start making yourself happy and stop compromising what you actually want?
When you get on this ruthless train, all the vehicles will have shorter and shorter trips, which means you need to ride for shorter periods of time, know what you’re doing, and know what you’re getting. The window only stays open so long, and then it closes.
Everything is getting disrupted so fast, you better get in, get going, and extract as much as you can from the situation as fast as you can extract, push it all away, and go do it again. Grab as much as you can as fast as you can.
Find out the person you are supposed to be.
Know this—comfortable is not the person you’re supposed to be.
THE HOW-TO OF BEING RUTHLESS
Here’s how to be ruthless:
- Be extremely disciplined—show up every day, no matter what
- Put significance on producing content to get attention, but don’t focus on the mechanics of production
- Go extremely fast at everything
When you commit to ruthless clarity, creativity will follow—it will rain. The Elon Musks, the Steve Jobs, all of the greats, they all control first and then creativity follows. They know how to be ruthless with themselves.
MY WISH FOR YOU
I want you to be able to write a million dollar check. I don’t want to be your hero, I want to be my hero. If I’m my hero, maybe I’ll inspire you.
Be ruthless with solving your problems. If you don’t figure it out who’s going to do it for you? No one. Every single book I have written, I was trying to solve a problem I had. I wasn’t trying to sell a book. I solve my problems—my problems are your problems. We all have the same problems.
Be committed to solving your problems ruthlessly.
I ruthlessly micromanage all aspect of my life and business. I need to be around other people that allow me to explode this expansiveness. Expand into your greatness! Expand into who you are supposed to be.
Be ruthless with...
- Your time
- Your money
- Your friends and family
SUMMARY
Ask yourself what is the one thing you need to do or give up to become more ruthless. You need ruthless clarity in your life. That means you need to get firm on your purpose, then either train the people around you to support it or stop wasting time with them. It all starts with you.
Decide what you want in life, then ruthlessly go after without apology. Success and reaching your true potential requires nothing less.
Be great,

6yImportant article in a society where everyone is teaching you to do the exact opposite: To be nice. "I don’t want to be your hero, I want to be my hero." Please ONLY yourself by being YOUR ideal... and maybe others will feel inspired. I like this attitude.
