Carbon13 Newsletter 24#2: Keep up the pace

We don't believe in one silver bullet in the fight against climate change, but in a multitude of solutions and perspectives. Over the past year, we have really upped the ante.

And this year is also starting at a fast pace. Last month, we launched two new cohorts in Cambridge and Berlin. We are also close to finalising the investment decisions for Cohort 3 of the Venture Launchpad.

Our portfolio companies are running at full speed too. The year started with great milestones, such as the round of Cbamboo from Cambridge Cohort 5, and many more good news are in the pipeline.

Cbamboo Co-founders Gabriel Rozenberg & Daniel Sharp

Cbamboo has announced its £1m pre-seed funding round led by Pale blue dot and supported by Mudcake (prev. Trellis Road), PUSH, Prequel Ventures and angel investors.

Today’s global firms know that they must tackle carbon emissions in their supply chain. But they struggle to respond to the EU’s flagship climate policy, CBAM. The new rules are confusing and demanding — the software to master CBAM simply doesn’t exist. Carbon13 Co-founder Michael Langguth at our first Climate Innovation Showcase Day in Berlin

The Climate Innovation Showcase Day marked the last day of the first German Venture Builder Programme and it was very important to us to provide the 6 teams with a ceremonial setting for their final pitches. We would like to thank Google for supporting us with the ideal setting at the Berlin headquarters.

We are very proud of what the teams have achieved in such a short amount of time and are very excited about the milestones to come. Their names will remain closely associated with the launch of our German venture builder.

Carbon13 Co-founder Dr Nicky Dee kicks off Berlin Cohort 2

Berlin Cohort 2 is a group of 80 individuals with strong backgrounds and expertise in tech, science, or business. 34 different nationalities make up the cohort. 47% of them have founded a startup before and 32% hold a PhD. 33% of the prospective climate tech founders are female. On average, a participant has 13.3 years of work experience. Almost one in three has children under the age of 16.

All are united by a commitment to dedicating their energy and experience to fighting climate change and building ventures that have the potential to prevent or reduce 10 million tonnes of CO2 and equivalent per year, when at scale. The support of the Carbon13 team, the Entrepreneurs in Residence, Domain Experts and the many other partners and mentors on the programme, is designed to help them achieve this goal.
