Career Coaching Journey of A Young Professional

"Kalau hidup sekadar hidup, babi di hutan juga hidup. Kalau bekerja sekadar bekerja, kera juga bekerja." -Buya Hamka-

The words of wisdom by Buya Hamka is what motivates me to continue doing personal career coaching for professionals who need my help. I believe that throughout my life, if I do good to others, good things will also happen to me and my life. When I was young, I was also told that, we may not able to change the world but we surely can do something good that affect our community positively and positive things are contagious.

In July this year, I was approached by Anis and at that point of time she was not sure of what she wants to do next in her career. Throughout our career coaching sessions, I helped her understand that career is a journey with 30 years to go for a young professional like her. Be clear whether to be a specialist or a generalist, set career goals, chart career path and work hard towards achieving them. After coaching her for about 2 months, I am glad that she received a better job offer in different industry which I am sure will expand her experience.

Let's read more from the person herself who is willing to share her experience on her career coaching journey as a young professional and the key takeaways for the benefits of other readers.

"After over 3 years at my current company, I came to the point that I need to make a move to expand my experience. I want to hear other people's point of view and a fresh mindset from someone experienced out of my circle. I am still young and figuring out what kind of career path that I want. But for sure I know, I need to explore, try and expand my experience only then I will get to know myself better.

Signing up for a coaching session with En Ameirul is one of the best decisions that I have made in life for this year. Although we are not in the same line, he provided basic skills needed from preparing a good resume until the post interview session. Coaching sessions with him has opened my eyes in many areas and the reality of working life. He guided the importance of a structured story line so that the interviewer can get your points well, show your maturity during the interview and a proper follow up after the interview. On top of that, En Ameirul has many ways and techniques to apply for a job. I also get to know hundreds of his coachees from different industries and seniorities that are always keen to help each other.

Not only that, he is very approachable to share wisdom and thought on any issue that I raised pertaining to my current role and where I want to head. There is no doubt technical knowledge is important to succeed in your role, but you have to be strong psychologically too. I still remember one of the best pieces of advice that I received from him, “If you are facing a hard time, just try to live day by day, nothing gonna come and kill you.” Even after I managed to secure a new job, he is still willing to help and share his thoughts whenever I approach him to clarify something."

I hope if you are reading this article, you will learn something from the article and most important is to get advise and help from someone who knows better in that particular line of work.
