Careers Events and Resources for October

Careers Events and Resources for October

Educators and careers leads/advisers, including members of the Career Development Institute (CDI), all have a part to play to ensure screen careers information is accessible for young people.

TV and Film was the most popular industry on the ERIC creative careers app in 2023, with 50% of users accessing relevant content, yet only 6% of young people feel a career in these industries is accessible to them. Perhaps that's why the creative industries were a hot topic at the Labour Party Conference recently, with Lisa Nandy, MP and Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport saying: "We will put rocket boosters under tourism, film, gaming - growing creative industries in Sunderland, Blackpool, Birmingham and Dundee... so people in every part of our country have not just good jobs in their own community, but the chance to write the next chapter of our national story."

Each month we're highlighting all the free events, resources and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities you'll need to help you and the young people you support learn more about careers in film, TV, games, animation and VFX. Looking ahead to November, there are heaps of careers-focused events taking place, but now is the time to sign up or register for them, before places fill up.

If you're new to Into Film, all you need to access our free resources is an Into Film Account. Don't worry, it's completely free and only takes a moment to set up.

Pact: Inside Independent Production resource

Did you know the UK's independent production sector is worth nearly £4bn annually, employing tens of thousands from across the country? From TV shows like The Traitors, Wild Isles, and Peppa Pig, to films like Rocks and Kensuke's Kingdom, many of the programmes, films, and online content we enjoy every day come from independent production companies.

Inside Independent Production, created in partnership with  Pact , is a ready-to-use lesson featuring insights from professionals from across the sector. It also includes essential labour market information on roles, pathways, and the skills needed to succeed in independent production.

Suitable for learners aged 14 and older, this resource shines a light on the importance of independent production in the screen industries, along with the career opportunities within the sector.

With the film and creative industries to form a key part of the government’s mission to grow the economy in all parts of the UK, now is the perfect time to support screen careers conversations and young people's career aspirations.
