Case for Refugee Resilience: Reflection on the Lost Boys’ Story of Perseverance

I invite you to read this powerful story of personal resilience from one of my colleagues who shares his experiences as a refugee and provides some insight into broader questions around resilience. I hope that you will be moved by this story as much as I was.

He starts... Fifteen years ago last month, I was brought to America through the U.S. Refugee Resettlement Program after having lived in refugee camps in Ethiopia and Kenya for more than a decade. Yes Haruna Darbo you are correct but there is no rule of law here for disable people in Sierra Leone. Its only when President Ernest Bai Koroma came to power when victims of war started receiving benefit and those who caused the pain to the amputees and war wounded were benefiting and even some of them were sent our of Sierra Leone to educate them whilst the victim of war are begging outside there. GOD HELP US.

Yes Alhassan. Roger-Mark De Souza shares the dtory of his friend who has experience being a refugee. There are many refugees who are physically and mentally challenged. In fact during displacements, those fellows, along with women and children, are the first to bear the brunt and to seek refuge. I understand your concern for the Disabled of Salone. I encourage you to found an organization to advocate for and to accrue relief for Salone's disabled. I promise you that I and our friends here will do all we can to accompany and support you in that cause. You have my unconditional support.
