Greenacres Enterprises is a leading Australian Disability Enterprise in the Illawarra, providing services to the Illawarra, Shoalhaven, and Sydney regions for almost 70 years. With a strong workforce of approximately 200 supported employees, and a certification for Quality Management Systems, the company provides reputable services to small, medium, and large business, as well as Government organisations.
Audra Tuckwood, the Chief Commercial Officer of Greenacres Enterprises, explains “with the current skill shortage across construction and other Enterprises, it’s a wonderful opportunity to provide jobs for people with disabilities – many people are unaware of the range of tasks our participants can undertake, which can often free up existing skilled employees to focus on other areas.”
A longstanding partnership
Greenacres Enterprises has worked alongside KJ Scaffolding for over 10 years and are growing the number of workers within their workforce.
Brett Rodwell from KJ Scaffolding said the companies have been working closely together to create employment opportunities for people with a disability in the region.
“Greenacres has provided an ongoing workforce for KJ Scaffolding that have been an integral part of our business for many years, providing crucial support within our organisation. KJs is very proud to be a part of such a wonderful partnership and we look forward to many good years ahead,” he said.
KJ Scaffolding currently works with four Greenacres supported employees, who work alongside an experienced Greenacres disability support supervisor. The team’s tasks include handling returned scaffolding equipment, undertaking quality assurance checks and maintenance activities, as well as keeping the site clean.
Josh, a supported employee, loves working on site with the Greenacres and KJ Scaffolding teams. “My favourite part of the job is counting the components and putting them away. We all work together to ensure the job is completed correctly. I like the early starts and the early finishes, it allows me to enjoy time in the afternoons with my beautiful wife,” says Josh.
The team attend daily toolbox meetings and have opportunities to join in with the wider KJ Scaffolding team, which assists with the creation of an inclusive work environment.

Greenacres Supervisor James Quian says his team are very busy learning new skills and contributing to a successful business. “It’s a great atmosphere and we like the stability and comradery the job offers. I like seeing supported employees grow and learn new skills, they enjoy routine and so do I,” says James.
KJ Scaffolding have strict compliance requirements to ensure that all employees work in a safe environment – the Greenacres workers identify any defects on the scaffolding material at the end of a project, so that when they are reused next time there will be a safe setup. It’s an additional method of quality control to ensure high safety standards for all workers and clients.
