Celebrating India's Freedom and Unity : Lets remember the sacrifices made by our Freedom fighters

15TH August, 2024:

This year we are celebrating 78th Independence Day.

India's journey to be blessed with Independence has been filled with immense sacrifice, courage and unity of the citizens. It has been a vigorous fight for not just one day or one year - its 200 years to get this freedom.

The revolt of 1857 was the conscious beginning of the Independence struggle against the colonial tyranny. There are various names for the this mutiny – India’s First War of Independence, Sepoy Mutiny, etc. The revolt began on May 10, 1857, at Meerut as a sepoy mutiny. It was initiated by sepoys in the Bengal Presidency against the British officers. This War of Independence marked the end of rule by the British East India Company. The Vellore Mutiny took place even before the revolt of 1857. It erupted on 10th July 1806 in Vellore, present-day Tamil Nadu, and lasted only for a day, but it was brutal and it was the first major mutiny by the Indian sepoys in the East India Company.

Post Revolt of 1857, India was directly ruled by the British government through representatives known as Governor-General. From the 1857 Revolt to the Leave India movement, our freedom fighters faced many challenges to breath air of freedom. At last, on 15 August 1947, India was declared an independent nation.

The sacrifice made by the citizens spread over length and breadth of the society through active guidance of leaders like Lok Maanya Tilak, Mahatma Gandhiji, Subrahmanya Bharathiar, V O Chidambaram, Netaji Subhashchandra Bose, Mangal Pandey, Vanchinathan, Va Ve Su, Sathyamurthy, Velu Nachiar, VeeraPandiaKattabomman has to be remembered always. If we look back, we see the inspiring journey and continuous struggles of these great people.

Because of their efforts only, we breath and chew the fruits of freedom today.. In short, Independence Day is a momentous day that makes us feel free and safe.
