The Celtic Sea Cluster | Floating Offshore Wind
An interesting session today looking at the eye-popping potential for Floating Offshore Wind in the Celtic Sea, with figures of upwards of 150 GW peppering the discourse.
The enthusiasm of the panel and audience made this an upbeat session and I enjoyed industry veteran Mike Scott's summary of the realities of Project Development particularly regarding education and stakeholder involvement.
Along side these and also needing addressing are the CfD and financial aspects as well as seeking to optimise project design and and integrated solutions.
Following the codification of the Offshore Wind Sector deal, the supply chain and local content opportunities featured prominently and it was especially pleasing to see the potential integration of Hydrogen being mentioned from the outset. Floating technologies may be particularly suited to site conditions rather than fixed-foundation proposals previously investigated for the nearby Atlantic Array.
The Welsh/Cornish aspect was evidenced at the Crown Estate London's Round 4 events:
and things have certainly progressed despite the lock down.
