CEOs Are Optimistic. Employees, Not So Much

The CEOs have spoken. According to multiple recent surveys, they think the business world is looking very rosy. But employees aren’t so sure. Many say they’re worried about AI, the chaotic employment market, and inflation. Korn Ferry’s experts have suggestions for leaders about how to talk to their skeptical workforces. Plus, we have advice on how to expand your professional network.


1) A Worried Workforce

Unemployment creeping higher. Mysterious drones flying around multiple US states. AI replacing people at work. The specter of higher inflation.

As 2025 draws near, employees are facing anxiety-inducing elements on multiple fronts. Surveys taken after the US election indicate that more than 30% of workers believe they have little or no job security and that 30% of them feel that their families are falling behind financially. Plus, after the recent shooting of a healthcare executive, some workers even worry they might be hounded on social media, or ostracized by neighbors, based on what industry or company they work for.

As we enter a New Year, it probably isn’t an ideal environment for leaders seeking to persuade employees to work efficiently, be creative, and push to meet goals. But experts say leadership shouldn’t dismiss these anxieties.

Actually, yes there is a growing concern among employees especially since we all know that enterprises are going to be over the moon when they will buy Elon Musk's robot for 25.000 dollars only. It is a one time investment and development and will be on the long term cheaper than hiring employees. Since evolution of IA, the gap between social classes is growing and it feels like all those who are not specialized in data or tech will end up being dismissed. It is really worrying and no one really talks about it. I find it so scary.

Gary Burnison I appreciate your insights, but please avoid divisive labels that perpetuate age bias. Here's why: "...In a pro-con article on the use of generational labels, Dr Daniel Jolles, a research officer in behavioral science at The Inclusion Initiative (TII) at the London School of Economics and Political Science, wrote: 'These labels have largely originated from the Pew Research Center, a U.S. think tank, before evolving organically through popular and social media. In recent times, there have been mounting concerns about the absence of scientific rigor supporting these generational constructs and the potential detrimental effects the labels may have on workplace culture.' "The pressure on Pew to examine the usage of age labels prompted a lengthy study that ultimately documented the lack of scientific foundation and misuse. This finding led Pew to revise its approach in May 2023, when it warned readers to recognize the oversimplification and stereotypes inherent in label usage and the importance of acknowledging similarities across age groups instead of focusing only on differences..."
