The f(x) = e^x | March 02, 2023

Issue # 206

Good Day! This is my weekly newsletter, with a dose of insights into the future. The topic of this newsletter is the exponential times we live in, hence the title of f(x) = e^x, which is the (natural) exponential function.

My latest article:

Digital transformation is about using technology to transform how businesses operate and deliver customer value. It's not just about new gadgets but a fundamental shift in culture and mindset. The biggest challenges are keeping up with rapid change and hiring skilled workers. Agility is critical to success.

To be agile, leaders must foster a culture of collaboration, data-driven decision-making, and continuous learning. They must also prioritise understanding emerging technologies and their potential impact and align their goals and metrics accordingly.

Key technologies driving digital transformation include AI, IoT, cloud computing, blockchain, and 5G. While they offer significant benefits, they pose challenges like data privacy and security. Organisations need a clear vision aligned with their business goals, partnerships with industry experts, and employee training programs to succeed.

Digital transformation requires careful planning, execution, and a roadmap for achieving goals. It's a challenging but necessary journey for businesses to stay competitive and meet changing customer expectations.

Useful Nuggets of Information

My weekly tips from around the web to get you thinking.

1. OpenAI has released the ChatGPT API.

OpenAI's cutting-edge ChatGPT and Whisper models are now available via API, providing developers with amazing language and speech-to-text capabilities. The ChatGPT model has seen a 90% cost reduction since December, and OpenAI is passing on these savings to users and is priced at $0.002/1k tokens. Expect to see some amazing apps hit the market very soon. (OpenAI)

2. Twitter is featuring Russian propaganda on your timeline.

Oh, look, the Kremlin is using Twitter's new paid verification system to spread propaganda more effectively. Musk has said he'll feature tweets from paid subscribers even more prominently in Twitter's news feed and search. But no worries, Elon Musk's takeover of Twitter is doing great things for the spread of politically charged misinformation. (Washington Post)

3. Forget AI. Organoid intelligence is the new thing.

Scientists have proposed a plan to develop a biological computer powered by human brain cells that could outperform silicon-based machines while using far less energy. The system, called "organoid intelligence," would consist of arrays of brain organoids - tiny three-dimensional neural structures grown from human stem cells - that are connected to sensors and output devices and trained by machine learning and big data. 4. VCs go crazy over AI that can make dad jokes.

Generative AI is booming, attracting investments from venture capitalists despite the recent tech crash. With 539 startups collectively raising over $11bn in the capital, generative AI is being driven by factors such as the ease of building new services and applications on top of foundation models.
