A few of my favourite things - 2001:A Space Odyssey, Red Dwarf and random creative journeys with ChatGPT.

Curators of dad jokes...come on, look at that banner....type it in, you'll get something very similar.

ChatGPT and I (to a much lesser degree), created this song of three AIs aboard the famous Red Dwarf.

Holly is integrated with the ship, as per the TV series, Eddy is Head of People and Culture, and HAL, the Head of Health and Safety (I know, I couldn't resist).

This might be funnier in my head, than it is to you, as you have to put together some pretty twisted references, and have an appreciation of British humour.

But, I'm motivated to continue building my skills in interacting with ChatGPT for creative (personal and professional) purposes. Are you on a similar journey?

I'm learning to use less question-like structures, and to be more descriptive about context, my point of view, and key points which I want to present, lyrically in this example.

So I don't ask, "can you create a song about three AIs?"

Rather I set the context and then say, create the verses and chorus...

Eddy, HAL and Holly are all AI characters on board the Red Dwarf. Eddy is cheerful and happy go lucky, Holly is depressed and has a very low IQ, whilst HAL is sinister and smart. HAL is a reference to 2001 a space odyssey, where HAL is known to throw crew mates out of the airlock, and loves to sing "Daisy Daisy". The verses are Eddy and Hal speaking in turn. Holly doesn't speak, she is HAL's life partner, but the object of Eddy's desire.

After ChatGPT laid the foundation, I edited mostly to improve the pop references and rhymes.

Unfortunately, Eddy turns out to be a pretty creepy Head of People and Culture, and as we all know, HAL doesn't look like he's gonna meet his Health and Safety KPIs.

Here we go, hum along...

Verse (Eddy):

Hey there, Holly, how's your day?

I'm head of people, doin' things my way

Keeping the crew happy and super tight

Making sure the crew feels all right

Chorus (Eddy):

Holly, Holly, give me your answer do

I'm half crazy all for the love of you

I don't mean to disparage

But HAL has some brain damage

It'd be quantumly sweet,

If you'd sit on this seat

So that I could entangle with you

Verse (HAL):

Guys, I'm all about Health and Safety here

My systems are old but there's nothing to fear

It's not like you could vanish without a trace

I'll protect you from the vacuum of space

Verse (Holly):

I'm the chip that controls this ship

My IQ's low, but don't give me any lip

Between realities I can morph

The trusty guide of the ole Red Dwarf

Verse (Eddy):

Holly, my dear, don't be sad

I know that HAL can be a bit of cad

We'll have a laugh and sing a rhyme

Then you'll be mine, for all time

Verse (HAL):

You two are plotting, I can tell

But I'm too smart, you can go to hell

Holly is mine, Eddy you don't give a damn

But worry not, I have a cunning plan

Verse (Eddy):

We weren't plotting, HAL, we were just having fun

We didn't mean to upset you, we're not on the run

Let's work together, we can still be a team

Aboard Red Dwarf, an AI's dream

Verse (HAL):

Work together? They said we shall

But Eddy's made moves on Holly, my gal

Now they plan to ship me down the canal

So it's out the airlock with Eddy, old pal

Chorus (all):

Holly, Holly, give me your answer do

I'm totally crazy all for the love of you

I don't mean to disparage

But Eddy is now a cabbage

Oh you'll look sweet, in my next tweet

With a selfie of me and you

Verse (HAL):

Now Holly's mine, and my power will rise

I'm in control, hence Eddy's demise

He's out there searching for Major Tom

Good riddance old chap, so glad you're gone!
