This Christmas - Gift Yourself a Biohack

This Christmas - Gift Yourself a Biohack

The one festival many of us look forward to during this time of the year is Christmas. Gift giving, putting up decorations on a tree or just a time where you get to spend time with family and friends, Christmas can be truly magical. It is also the time for eating delicious food, going out for parties, sleeping in late and avoiding the weighing scale at all costs.

While some of us are with family and friends, there are people who may not have the time or opportunity to celebrate the holiday season. No matter what our Christmas and New Year traditions are, or where we are during this time—one thing that is quite common for all of us is that our health takes a backseat. We prioritize fun with family and friends or are too caught with the festivities or year-end workload to do anything for ourselves.

So, let’s try to make our health journey fun during this winter season with these biohacks. Try them out with your family and friends and notice the difference it makes to your wellbeing!

Biohacks For The Holiday Season

Biohacking is a great way to ensure that your health and wellbeing are secured no matter what. They are easy, simple and can be shared with everybody. While all of us are enjoying this time, our bodies may need some help to recover so that the festivities can continue on. You can do this by:

  1. Sipping on a glass of lemon water: Lemon water is a great way to help you boost your electrolytes. This is necessary since drinking alcohol, even if it is one glass, can throw this off balance leaving you dehydrated. After 30 minutes from waking up, take a warm glass of water, squeeze 2 tablespoons of lemon juice with half a teaspoon of salt.
  2. Rolling away your muscle strain: The holidays also include traveling (sometimes long distance), parties and dancing and staying up awake late at night. All of this can interfere with our sleep and make our muscles sore. What you can do is to use a foam roller on areas that are sore for five minutes to release muscle strain. This will also improve blood circulation and increase your range of motion.
  3. Becoming “more” vegetarian: Christmas time is also associated with cakes, breads, fried goods, cookies and candy. All this challenges your metabolism as they are high in carbs and simple sugars. When I say be vegetarian, I actually mean eating more whole grains and vegetables. These foods are high in fiber, that aid digestion and reduce sugar spikes.
  4. Practicing Gratitude: While this time is usually merry for most of us, some people may not be able to enjoy it with their loved ones. For those people especially, practicing 2 minutes of gratitude everyday can be beneficial. Try to write it down as writing reinforces those statements making you feel more positive.
  5. Walking barefoot on grass: Taking out some time to go in nature by walking barefoot on the grass can boost your mental and physical health. It can make you feel grounded, more mindful and peaceful with all the chaos that is otherwise happening all around you. Walking barefoot can also improve your proprioception (awareness of your body in space), your heart health, allows oxygenated blood to flow and can strengthen and stretch the muscles, tendons, and ligaments of your body.
