NESO’s Clean Power 2030: key points explained

Earlier this month, the National Energy System Operator (NESO) published its advice to government on how Great Britain can achieve a clean power system by 2030.

With two potential pathways - ‘Further Flex and Renewables’ and ‘New Dispatch’ - NESO concludes that, while the ambition is possible, big investment and buy-in from multiple stakeholders is required.

For businesses, there are several areas of interest, including the recommendation for a large increase in demand flexibility, as our latest article from Anthony Ainsworth explains.

Why is it critical for the UK that the government listen to our findings?

The UK’s independent generators already form an important part of the generation mix. With the government setting ambitious targets for the acceleration of renewables, their role will become even more vital, providing sustainable and secure power to homes and businesses across the country.

That is why we believe that their views should be taken into account in future energy policy decisions. Partnering with Farmers Weekly, alongside Energy Live News and The Energyst, we surveyed the opinions of 350 independent generators to gauge their opinions on policy, barriers they face and the benefits of selling their power.

Our podcast below, in partnership with The Energyst highlights some of the key findings. You can also access the full report here.

Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism in under 90 seconds

Earlier this year, the UK government launched a consultation on the introduction of a UK Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).

It has now published its response and Sally Phillips outlines the key points for businesses, which sectors are in scope and which sectors are under review to be in scope potentially in the future.

Delivering Labour's key mission of achieving clean power by 2030

Now that the Labour government has had time to get its feet under the table, policy expert Dan Meredith takes a look at who’s doing what – and how – when it comes to delivering Labour’s key mission of achieving clean power by 2030.

In this briefing, Dan Meredith explains why cross-departmental collaboration is an important focus, as well as appointing industry specialists to champion progress and innovation.

Why is renewable generation not resulting in cheaper energy prices?

This is one of the most common questions we hear from energy consumers. After all, the ‘fuel’ required to generate power from solar panels or wind turbines is free.

The answer though is far more complex. In our latest three-minute video, Stephen Evans † and Mark Ursell from our Optimisation Desk, discuss this in detail.
