CLIMATE CHANGE IS MORE THAN A TECH PROBLEM, SO WE NEED MORE THAN A TECH SOLUTION

Climate change mitigation requires systemic social change, not just technological optimism.

Interesting food for thought in this article by Martin J. Boucher and Philip Loring. Their approach is to say that the causes and hence the solutions to climate change come from a system failure. To address them, we have to think in terms of root causes and system, not about incremental technological improvements.

To do a parallel with Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility: don’t do a “green” product line next to your core offering. Instead, try to change your whole offering, with goals so ambitious -like carbon neutrality for instance- that they will require your company to think out of the box… and probably beat the competition at the same time!
