Climate Hypocra-science
We took a trip out to BC last weekend to enjoy the mountains, the fresh air, and some well needed rest & relaxation. However during this trip I noticed something interesting that led me to question - "When did CBC radio become such a propaganda machine?"
Between continual praises towards our Prime Minister, the same individual who has been the centre of multiple ethical scandals in our country, and continual ongoing up to the minute reports of COVID-19 case rises that will result in Ontario likely tanking their economy with further lockdown procedures, I began to wonder if the CBC had anything of value to report on. Then came the ringer - Climate Change & Climate Science, infused in every other report and discussion, and I knew they indeed, no longer had much of value to report.
Is it just me, or is guilt-tripping and scaring a mass number of our National population - not to connect with family & loved ones over the Canadian - Thanksgiving holiday due to COVID not bad enough, we also guilt trip those choosing to partake in enjoying a meal consisting of meat under the guise of an environmental footprint. Didn't our brains originally begin to increase in size once we began eating meat? Could an equal argument be made that eliminating meat may result in a regression? This makes about as much sense as introducing a thing called Carbon Tax, aka - cash grab for politicians, thankfully Alberta and some of the other provinces are fighting this all the way to the Supreme Court.
Wow, that felt good to vent, to let that all out. You know what else feels good, breathing in this mountain fresh air, thank you trees. I wonder how many trees are in Canada, have you wondered that, lets check - according to my research, aka Google search, I see we have about 338 billion trees in Canada - billion with a B. So approximately 9000 trees for every man woman and child. I also thought I would do some calculations of my own with this info and without revealing my math (you have a calculator and google too now) here is what I found. Canada in 2018 produced 568 million Metric Tons of CO2 and our trees offset 12 809 million Metric Tons of CO2. I also found another stat showing Americans as being worse polluters than us Canadians with the average American requiring approximately 1025 trees to offset their pollution, eh. But hey, us Canadians have 9000 trees for every man woman and child. We have offset to spare for our neighbours... so explain this Carbon Tax thing to me again, and why Canadians owe a dime? Shouldn't we be getting National Carbon credits in the form of cash, you know, set up a system like Norway has with oil reserves that benefits us.
Well... if us humans are going to be the root cause our own demise, through our direct actions resulting in rising temp on the planet then it is an issue, and if not, then the entire house of cards reason for Carbon Taxation falls apart. Besides if we can guilt trip the Nation, perhaps more people will tolerate parting with their hard earned dollars, what could be nobler now then saving the world! But what if greenhouse gas emissions are not the reason for climate change - formerly known as global warming, only climate change has that allusive vague yet fresh modern appeal. Note, I am not saying pollution is not bad, or that it does not effect poor air quality, just that it may not be the rising temperature culprit. In fact, there is a vast body of evidence that suggests earth warming is not due to pollution, and a vast body of evidence that suggests that earth warming is due to solar magnetic surface cycles. Our sun has these things on the surface called spots that can have far more effect on our planets temperature than anything us humans could ever do, according to my Physics/Astronomy University Prof. (totally forgot his name). But apparently he and my Grade 6 science teacher didn't share notes.
My thoughts are this - the majority of Canadians took Grade 6 science, and a very small number perhaps a fraction of a percent of those that took Grade 6 science, also took a University Physics/Astronomy class. Also, does anything you do cause a direct response to solar magnetic surface cycles? No, but what do you do, you eat, you consume, you pollute - YOU PLANET KILLER, YOU GLOBAL TEMPERATURE RISER YOU! See, don't you feel a little guilty now for existing... here, feel better, pay some tax, now your good, you have paid your penance and your tithe now to the National Coffer, good boy, good girl. And now perhaps I can listen to the story on CBC radio and perhaps be swayed to eat the Vegan alternative meat blend, that is chalked full of sodium and chemicals and is a terrible alternative at twice the cost of eating actual meat, but hey, maybe we could tax the beef, and chicken, and animal producers and fill those coffers up some more.
Hypocrascience - claiming scientific fact while guilt-trippin others, and partaking in activities that fly in the face with the very thing you are advocating and scolding others, aka not you, about. Personally I enjoy how Scott Adams the creator of Dilbert makes up new words, so I figured I would follow suit with this gem of my own. Perhaps I will read it one day in a Dilbert comic 'wink', 'wink'.
If I hired a scientist to go find a bunch of blue things in a geographic area, the scientist would come back and report all the blue things observed. If I then questioned, how did you know those things were all blue, the scientist would further answer the methods that were taken to determine the blue things from the non-blue things. We may learn and discover some new methods at identifying and observing blueness. However if we then asked the scientist to report, without returning to the geographic location the orange things... this would be produce far more dismal results in terms of accuracy. The scientist would far prefer to speak on those things blue, than those things orange in that specific geographic area, as the study sought to find the 'blue'. So lets frame this in terms of government sponsored scientific research to identify, oh lets say a thing called climate change. Government is now the employer, paying the scientist, allowing the scientist to thus support his/her family and pay their bills, mortgage, etc. Financially speaking what result/data will produce positive net fiscal benefit for the 'employer' aka 'government' - 1) earth warming due to pollution or 2) earth warming due to solar magnetic surface cycles?
Here are my thoughts. Want to be vegan or vegetarian, awesome, good for you! Want to eat meat, power to you! Want to go beyond those to and become a breatharian existing on air & water, whatever floats your boat! The problem lies when I, you, they, whoever, 'forces' something on another without a choice, void of 'free will' or 'independent thought'. Why should people do the right thing? Simple, because it is the right thing to do. That being said we should allow people the freedom to determine what that right thing is and what that right thing looks like to them. Personally, our family recycles, why, because we feel it is the right thing. We have par-took in highway cleanups, picking up trash on the highway, why because it earns our club we are supporting money, and it is the right thing. If you want to adjust your diet do so because it is the right thing for you. The problem as I see it these days is that we have a thing far worse than COVID, or Climate Change, it is an Insidious 'Social Disease' egoic & narcissistic in nature. It looks at being 'right' instead of doing 'right'. Being 'right' by forcing your viewpoints on others is simply a form of emotional bullying and harassment. I found myself getting stirred up listening to CBC radio of all things this weekend, whatever happened to good ol Stuart McLean? Lets bring back the CBC of the good ol' days, and stimulate a resurgence towards innovative & original thought.
