The Business Loop: Highlights and Takeaways

The Business Loop

On Thursday, we shared the highlights and takeaways from our very first Business Loop event.

Two weeks ago, the Stratstone Jaguar showroom in Reading was transformed into a business hub for the night, where marketing specialists mingled with distributors, energy experts, tech innovators, consultants and manufacturers.

📈 Starting with Measurement: Doug Johnson , Mesh Energy advocated for a data-driven approach, sharing how a £400 investment led to 30% electricity savings. Our co-founder Mike Penrose also emphasised the benefits for tailored, quantifiable roadmaps for businesses.

✏️ Storytelling for Change: Ben Morgan, Circular Accountants emphasised using metaphors and forward-focused narratives to inspire and anchor transformation.

🚘 Local Knowledge: Clare Sharp, Berkshire Local Enterprise Partnership provided an update on  Berkshire’s electrification plans including 6,500 new public EV charge points starting in 2025, and available practical support like EV grants and salary sacrifice schemes. The Business Loop event series is just the start.

The Business Loop, powered by FuturePlus, is creating a nationwide community of businesses committed to a long-term positive impact. By convening diverse organisations and supporting collaboration with key partners, it seeks to expand knowledge, connect sustainability and profitability, provide support, and drive meaningful action on sustainability.

In 2025, FuturePlus will host more events, helping businesses nationwide future-proof in a rapidly changing world.

🙌 A huge thank you to our event partners, Stratstone and the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) , as well as our panel of experts.

Surrey Cricket includes fans to showcase sustainability efforts

Sustainability Event at Surrey Cricket

Surrey County Cricket Club showcased its sustainability efforts during its first-ever 'Sustainabili-T20' match this summer. Fans attending the Vitality Blast fixture were treated to a host of eco-friendly activities, including energy bikes, pedal-powered SCALEXTRIC / SCX , and vegan smoothie stations. The day highlighted fun ways to embrace sustainability. On the pitch, Surrey partnered with Cricket Builds Hope, pledging to plant trees in Rwanda for each boundary scored.

“We aim to make sustainability accessible and fun, helping fans integrate it into their lives.” - Emily Iveson-Pritchard , Head of Sustainability, Surrey FA.

The Kia Oval already features compostable food packaging, electric groundskeeping machinery, and solar panels. It plans to achieve net zero by 2030. LED floodlight installation is underway, and it aims to be completed by 2025.

FuturePlus member, the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has backed Surrey’s efforts, recognising the critical role cricket can play in addressing climate change. By integrating sustainability into the game, Surrey and the ECB aim to inspire fans and clubs nationwide to adopt greener practices.
