Closing the collaboration Gap by connecting the dots...

The best way to close the #CollaborationGap is to connect the dots....

To create the change we need for #Mission2030 we must start working together like never before in history... at many conferences people and companies have been talking about radical collaboration.... but most of it has been just talk no action.....we see Silothinking in many companies and organisations instead of collaboration across industries....

Back in 2014 I have met Ilkka Kakko at seats2Meet in #Utrecht who gave me his new book "Oasis Way and the Postnormal Era: How Understanding Serendipity Will Lead You to Success"

#Serendipity? That and the #PostNormalEra have been completely new to me

The #SerendipityMindset was an eye opener for me.... Serendipity is an unplanned fortunate discovery. Serendipity is a common occurrence throughout the history of product invention and scientific discovery.

And after almost 10 years I also believe that it can help us tremendously to accelerate sustainable development and connect the dots...

Last year serendipity brought Christian Busch the Author of the Serendipity Mindset and 'Connect the dots' into my Linkedin Timeline....and after reading his book I was sure this is one of the most important books for closing the collaboration gap.....

Dr Christian Busch has spent a decade exploring how, if acted upon, unexpected encounters can enhance our worldview, expand our social circles and create new professional opportunities. From couples who met during chance encounters to businesspeople who invented world-changing ideas after a misfire, Dr Busch has studied hundreds of subjects who improved their lives by learning to see opportunities in the unexpected.

Connect the Dots is a revolutionary, well-researched exploration of an essential life skill that we can ALL develop and master.

Cultivating the serendipity mindset might actually help us find solutions for the worlds most pressing challenges ending #Hunger #Poverty ending the multiple crisis.... achieving all the #GlobalGoals by 2030 as we had planned in 2015....

If there is any book that can create a paradigm shift in thinking, Connect the Dots is one of my absolute favourites... and Christian is making a big difference as one of the thinkers most likely to shape the future as a thought leader on innovation and purpose driven leadership.

Dr. Christian Busch is an internationally known expert in the areas of innovation, purpose-driven leadership, and serendipity. He is the director of the CGA Global Economy Programme at New York University (NYU), and also teaches at the London School of Economics (LSE). A cofounder of Leaders on Purpose and the Sandbox Network - and a former director of LSE's Innovation Lab - he has worked with senior executives and governments around the world. He is member of the WEF Expert Forum, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and on the Thinkers50 Radar list of the 30 thinkers "most likely to shape the future."

"Connect the Dots: Can help us turn strangers into a meaningful Network

In terms of closing the collaboration gap for the sustainable development goals, the book offers several strategies that can help. Here are a few key takeaways:

  1. Build diverse networks: Busch emphasizes the importance of building networks with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. By connecting with people who have different skills, knowledge, and resources, we can tap into a wider range of ideas and opportunities for collaboration.
  2. Foster serendipity: The book suggests that serendipity can be a powerful tool for creating unexpected collaborations. By putting ourselves in situations where we are likely to meet new people and have chance encounters, we can increase the likelihood of discovering new opportunities for collaboration.
  3. Look for shared values: The book also suggests that finding shared values can be a key driver of collaboration. When we connect with people who share our values and goals, we are more likely to work together effectively and achieve our shared objectives.

Christian highlights the importance of building meaningful connections with others, embracing serendipity, and working together to achieve common goals. Purpose driven leadership is a great chance to close the collaboration gap and work towards a more sustainable future.

Purpose-driven leaders emphasize the importance of #impact over individual achievements. This approach helps to create a sense of shared responsibility and accountability for achieving results, which can encourage collaboration and teamwork.

Purpose-driven leaders encourage collaboration by creating a culture of trust and psychological safety. When team members feel comfortable sharing ideas and working together, it can lead to more effective collaborations.

Christian Busch is a leading researcher on social innovation and entrepreneurship, and his work has been published in leading academic journals. His research has helped to advance our understanding of how networks and collaborations can drive innovation and social change.

Busch is also a professor at New York University and the London School of Economics, where he teaches courses on social innovation and entrepreneurship. By sharing his knowledge and expertise with the next generation of leaders, he is helping to inspire a new wave of purpose-driven changemakers.

"Connect the Dots", has been widely praised for its insights on building meaningful relationships and networks. The book has inspired many readers to rethink how they approach networking and collaboration, and to embrace the power of serendipity in their lives and work.

I truly believe that cultivating the serendipity mindset can help us close the collaboration gap... Look what the Linkedin Founder has to say about the book:

To fully leverage the discoverability and connectivity that today's mobile networked world enables, you must hone your ability to connect the dots of chance encounters and seemingly random information in creative and productive ways. This book can help you do that - highly recommended!

I like the concept of "connect the dots" however, I'd like to find examples where that is happening. Here's a concept map that shows intermediary organizations in Chicago who focus on youth well-being and who each help many organizations in their network. https://cmapspublic.ihmc.us/rid=1KJ51SZKL-1QQZ4B7-25R2/Youth%20Networks_in_Chicago.cmap Ideally, each of their websites would host similar concept maps (and GIS maps) showing what organizations are in their networks along with strategies they use to help these orgs connect and learn from each other. Are there concept maps like this for each of the 17 SDGs, with versions for each country in the world?

On #purposedrivenleadership: When we connect with people who share our values and goals, we are more likely to collaborate effectively. We should read more LinkedIn posts than CVs when looking for team members:-) #transformationalleadership
