Cloud Concept(Basic): Elasticity V/S Scalability.

Elasticity :

Elasticity is nothing but the ability to scale-up & scale-down capabilities whenever needed by the workload demand. For example, You bought an instance with lower configuration and then it seems you need more resources as it can't handle your workload then you can easily scale-up as per your needs. It can be achieved by the following ways-

1. Vertically or Horizontally

2. Manual or Automatically

3. Based on workload demand

4. Pay as you go

Scalability :

Scalability is the ability to increase the number of resources or size of the resources based on the workload demands/loads.

Scale-out(Horizontal Scaling): Horizontal Scale-out means increasing the number of instances. For example: You have a server with 4 Core CPU's and 64 GB of RAM. Now you add another instances with same or different configuration is called horizontal scaling or scale-out.

Scale-up (Vertical Scaling): Vertical Scaling means increasing the existing host capacity. For example: You have a server with 4 Core CPU's and 64 GB of RAM. Now you add another 3 core & 16 GB of RAM in the existing host is called vertically scaling or scale-up.
