The Cold Call
Making your first call can be very difficult but you should be confident.
You are a salesperson and you should love talking to people. When you make the first call you will realise that it’s not that difficult. After all, the person picking up the call on the other end is just another human being like you and me. Most importantly, please remember that you are calling this person because you believe that your product or service is going to make the other person’s life better. When you have this confidence, you should not feel awkward calling a person.
Of course, always remember that everyone is busy with their lives and when you are calling there is ample chance that the person is busy or s/he might be in a bad mood. Don’t feel offended if this person doesn’t give you a patient hearing and most importantly always ask if it’s the right time to talk for a few minutes. This is a genuine show of giving importance to the client. This is the empathy that everyone appreciates. Always inculcate this good habit.
This is how my first call went.
With trepidation, I picked up the phone. It was my first call to a foreign client.
I was anxious and I was fearful. One of the biggest fears was about the accent. I was good at writing and I had already communicated with the same client a couple of times over email but she wanted to talk over the phone before closing the deal.
What's more, I was in a new job which I joined 15 days back and I was yet to close a sale.
It was almost 9 PM and there was hardly anyone in the office. In a way it made me feel better because my fear was hidden from the outside world.
Finally, when I spoke, it went like a breeze, I decided to listen more and talk less so that I can absorb the accent and to make the client feel that I am giving her a patient hearing. It worked wonders because the next day the advance payment was in.
There is always a first time. Don't be fearful. You will win because you are born to win!

What is a story? And how is storyline formed? It’s all about the hero and how he wins his battle, isn’t it?
So when you connect with a client, make sure that you make her or him the hero. You have to act as a guide who will help the hero win. When you follow this concept, you will see how easily you make your clients get attracted to you because everybody wants to win, and when they see that he or she is getting a great guide who wants them to win they will accept you and welcome you with open arms.
Thoughts of the fortnight
A "Learner's Mindset" creates a burning desire to know more. Learning is a never-ending process.
Every project is a story. The story begins with a "lead" and reaches the finishing point with a "review".
Any successful person is a "Learner" at heart. That's the reason why all great leaders give so much importance to reading books. Books work like a window and help you in your thought process.
Wishing you a very happy new year! Stay safe and take care!
