conceive, believe, achieve

Tell them I wanted my daughter to grow up in a world where she didn't have to be discriminated because of her career choice. Tell them I wanted her to work in a field where she didn't feel inferior because of her gender. But dont forget to tell her that, whatever she dreamt of becoming she could be.

In 2017, shortly after completing my matric, young and hopeful, just about to embark on a new journey. I remember that time where even my parents were against me going to study electrical engineering because they felt that it was a male career, not befitting a woman and because I did my physical science on ordinary level which means I had to start with pre engineering, affording me an extra year. It was heartbreaking to want to pursue something and having your support system against it. While I understood their feelings and logic, it was something I had to do, needed to do.

Today I am proud to say that I followed my heart, achieved my dream, paved a way for my daughter, finish line is right in front of my eyes. Who would have thought that little old me would be a third year electrical engineering student today and be selected as 1 out of 75 Southern African Women in Engineering Fellow.

If I am able to achieve all that I have thus far, you too can. What are you waiting for?

Get up and just do it!!
