Condition your mind....for SUCCESS!!

"I am a big believer in visualization. I run through my races mentally so that I feel even more prepared." - Allyson Felix, Olympic Gold Medalist

Good morning team! In the past I have shared the power of visualization and how disciplined and repeated visualization techniques can absolutely help you achieve your goals. Conditioning your subconscious mind to see only one outcome and one outcome only - success takes practice and repetition. My personal experience with visualization was with running the Leadville 100 mile ultramarathon and literally conditioning my mind for one year each night before I went to sleep. I would see myself at mile 99.5 after running for more than 24 hours straight, cresting the hill overlooking the finishing line. I would hear the cowbells and people cheering the runners on and then I would cross the finish line with my family waiting. Each and every night as I drifted to sleep. I know from my personal experience how powerful this technique can be to help achieve your goals and how your subconscious doesn't know the difference.

Today, I would like to share another example of how visualizing each night can help you overcome fears, achieve more than you thought possible, and crush your goals with dedication and repetition.

June 3, 2017 - Yosemite National Park

I thought of our Alex Pfiffner when I first saw Alex Honnold's Ted Talk this week and his amazing feat of free soloing El Capitan in Yosemite Park on 6/3/2017. I thought of Alex Pfiffner because of the climbing aspect and how focused he was when we did the Potrero October, November, December (OND) challenge late last year and he wanted to focus specifically on climbing. The other Alex, Alex Honnold, also is a climber, specifically a free soloist. Free soloing is essentially climbing without ropes. Alex Honnold made history on June 3, 2017 when he ascended El Capitan in Yosemite without ropes. He was the first person in the world to free solo El Capitan. When I watched his Ted Talk earlier this week, I was struck with his method to ensure success, his method to overcome his deep rooted fears, his method of becoming the climber he wanted to be. It was a method of visualization. When you watch the video (below) your palms will sweat. Especially when he describes the hardest aspect of this climb and how when his "conditioned" subconscious mind took over the motions were automatic.

Visualization can be for physical as well as professional goals. If you condition your subconscious mind each and every night when you close your eyes for bed, you will be amazed at how your mind sees only the outcome in which it has now been programmed. It takes lots of repetition and consistency. For me, it wasn't just seeing myself crossing the finish line, it was feeling the emotions that I would have - projecting them each night into my visual exercise and building details in the visualization every night literally for 1 year. When fatigue and absolute exhaustion hit, my subconscious mind knew only one outcome - crossing the finish line.

We have big aspirations and goals here at Potrero, think of your biggest wish for Potrero and yourself. What makes you and the team grow when you achieve that goal. Try for 90 days visualizing all aspects of that goal - see yourself achieving and feel the associated emotion when you do achieve. Your subconscious will not know the difference. Whether it is for a regulatory clearance, a huge sale, a clinical study publication, or an invention breakthrough - see it and bring it to reality.

Take 3 minutes this morning and watch an excerpt of Alex Honnold's Ted Talk video, when his life was on the line, it really wasn't, because he had conditioned his mind perfectly for one outcome - summiting El Capitan.

This video is amazing.

Try the visualization technique for 90 days straight and see for yourself how it helps you achieve your goals.

ALWAYS FORWARD!!!!!

I'm a huge believer in visualising goals and mindfulness combined! My rowing coach introduced me to the concept and it was a game changer in helping conquer pre-race nerves and win the medals. I've definitely used the technique in my career too - how to approach that interview or present that important idea. The mind is so incredibly powerful when consciously used!
