Connecting Creatively

Connecting Creatively

Welcome back to The Big 3 newsletter, which gives 3 clear, simple, and powerful ideas every fortnight. It shouldn't take more than a few minutes to read but will give you more than a week's worth of insight. For those of you utilising LinkedIn, I want this to be the most valuable email in your inbox.

So here goes - 1 big piece of advice for LinkedIn, 1 question to help you level up your business and 1 idea from a business icon.

BIG ADVICE

EVERYTHING IS AN ‘IN’

A common concern I hear from people on LinkedIn is that there are few opportunities to connect with potential leads outside of a cold outreach. This couldn’t be further from the truth! Whether it’s a work milestone, or a response to a comment they shared, you can use almost anything as a way in - so long as you follow these three steps.

1 | START GENUINELY Start with a genuine comment, based on something relevant. You might wish them a happy birthday, or tell them you really liked the case study they shared the week before. Whatever it is, make it genuine.

2 | SEGUE SMOOTHLY

There’s no need to make this complicated. Simply say, ‘by the way, I’ve been meaning to get in touch about [relevant topic]’ or ‘Actually, this might be something I can help with’. Follow up on your initial comment by redirecting the conversation smoothly to the topic at hand.

3 | OFFER VALUE Whether you’re offering to meet up to discuss things further, or you can immediately share a relevant resource, make sure you aren’t asking for any labour from their side. Add value or create an opportunity for an easy ‘yes’.

Not everybody you reach out to will respond - but you’ll increase your chance (and enhance your reputation) by finding relevant opportunities to connect, rather than going in completely cold.

BIG QUESTION

ARE YOU A QUANTITY PERSON OR A QUALITY PERSON?

It’s not a trick question.

Both have merit in different contexts.

Whichever camp you fall into when it comes to business, you can include up to 3 website links to your profile.

That’s right; 𝟯 𝘄𝗲𝗯𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗸𝘀!

Is it time you added more links to your LinkedIn profile? Here’s how to add or remove a website from your profile 👇

👉 Click the 𝗠𝗲 𝗶𝗰𝗼𝗻 at the top of your LinkedIn homepage and select 𝗩𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗲.

👉 Click 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼 in your introduction section, and in the 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼 pop-up window, click the 𝗘𝗱𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝗰𝗼𝗻.

👉 Click 𝗔𝗱𝗱 𝘄𝗲𝗯𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲. Then, insert your website address into the 𝗪𝗲𝗯𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗨𝗥𝗟 𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱, choose 𝗪𝗲𝗯𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝘆𝗽𝗲 from the dropdown and press 𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗲.

If you’re a quantity person and have several websites you’d like to include in your profile, you might want to renew this section regularly by adding new URLs.

To remove a website link, follow the above two steps, and then, instead of adding a link, click 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲 under the website you want to remove and press 𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗲.

Did you know LinkedIn lets you include more than one website link in your profile?

FYI When you add the websites to your profile, they are 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 of your introduction section.

For extra pizazz ⚡️you can also add a link to your website in:

1. Your featured section

2. Your Premium Button underneath your headline

You can see this in action in my own profile.

BIG IDEA

"I believe that if you show people the problems and you show them the solutions, they will be moved to act."

― Bill Gates
