Attending the 2023 CTBUH International Conference in Singapore and Kula Lumpur recently and experiencing the off-site programs were both educative and enriching! The #Tun Razak Exchange( TRX) Development in KL was one such experience among the many that were offered during the seven-day conference ( 16 - 22 Oct 2023 ).

Master Plan : The public space, to open end of November 2023, is part of the mixed use Master Plan of the 70 acres site that is part of Malaysia's International Financial District at KL, which includes Offices, Hotel, Retail, and Residences in addition to a 10 acre roof top Public park ( 23 % of the plot area). Started initially with a Concept Master plan (CMP ) in 2011 followed with a Detailed Master Plan ( DMP ) in 2011 and since completed the #Exchange 106 building , and a few other offices buildings.

Public Space: The 10-acre rooftop public park, a lush green tropical expanse, interweaves a network of external retail pedestrian streets and squares which are well-shaded and utilize tempered spill air and fan-driven ventilation to create thermal comfort for users without the need for full air conditioning, ensuring seamless visual and physical connection between indoor and outdoor experiences. The park has recreational and educational amenities for children. cultural celebrations and events. We witnessed butterflies in one section of the planning and were informed that birds also have been visiting the park.

Infrastructure, Connectivity, and TOD: The development is supported by future-proof infrastructure and connectivity ( MRT line 1 and 2 intersections), access to the MEX highway, the main arterial road ( Jalan Tun Razak ), and the "Smart" Tunnel - a 7 km two-level highway that acts as a massive stormwater channel during major floods!

Sustainability Goals: Besides meeting the minimum #sustainability standards, in particular those related to LEEDS and GBI certifications. it has already begun to set high benchmarks for the country and region i.e. the First fully commercial #integrated water reclaim programme in Southeast Asia.

Safety and Security: The TRX is setting international standards in safety and security i.e. command and control centre, cutting edge site-wide surveillance, and dedicated police, fire, and rescue station. Crime prevention through Environmental design standards( CPTED ) and a comprehensive threat, risk, and counter-terrorism management strategy.

TRX Digital Eco-system: Cost-effective, modular, and scalable. This includes Digital Connectivity, Mobility, Security, Sustainability, and District Management.

Passionate and Dedicated Leadership and team: It was apparent from meeting a small section of the team including the CEO , Dato' Sr. Azmar Talib, Hafiidz Amer ( Sr. VP Corporate Planning ), and Vijay .. of the safety team that all the above would have been not been possible without such dedicated and passionate leadership and team, including consultants, government and contractors, especially during the pandemic.
