Fueling the Future: 51,000 New Opportunities in Construction
Ireland’s construction sector is gearing up for significant growth, backed by the government’s ambitions with the Housing for All and National Retrofit Plan. These bold visions aim to construct 33,000 new homes annually till 2030, in addition to retrofitting an impressive 500,000 homes to achieve a B2 Building Energy Rating standard.
Key highlights from this optimistic outlook:
- A staggering need for 51,000 new entrants across managerial, professional, skilled, and semi-skilled roles to bring to life the envisioned goal.
- In the upcoming year, the Department of Further and Higher Education plans to deliver multimedia resources to students to spotlight the various possibilities in the construction sector.
- A National Marketing Campaign will also be launched (subject to funding) to highlight the industry's various roles and debunk myths, seeking the appeal of a diverse talent pool.
- Move to reduce gender bias, offering mentorship programs for female employees and emphasising the sector's inclusivity.
With a blend of education, awareness, and inclusive strategies, the construction industry is heading toward a brighter, more diverse future. For a deep dive into the full story and details on other groundbreaking developments, click here.
Reputation vs. Rewards in Construction Careers
In the ever-evolving construction industry, the factors influencing job decisions are changing. We recently conducted a poll on our LinkedIn to understand what drives job decisions in the construction sector. Here's what we found:
- The majority, 48%, consider company reputation but ultimately prioritise salary. This highlights that pay remains a top concern for many.
- 36% of participants said the role and its benefits are more important than the company's fame. This indicates that the job's specifics matter more than the company's name.
- Only 8% of respondents strictly go for top-rated companies.
- Another 8% said they are ready to work in lesser-known companies if they offer great perks.
The poll results indicate that while reputation and other factors do influence job choices up to some extent, salary and benefits remain paramount for most in the construction sector. Companies might want to take note and consider how they package their job offers to attract the top talents.
