Be Considerate About Your Audience’s Age

Be Considerate About Your Audience’s Age

Let me share with you a great presentation lead-in I heard in one of the Rehearsal Rooms we had this month.

It went a little something like this:

“Plastic is fantastic.

It keeps CO2 out of the atmosphere…

It keeps your food fresher for longer…

And it gives you all of those devices that you love to play on all the time.

But it does have a dark side.”

Now, why did I say this is a great lead-in?

Well…

It’s because the audience for this specific presentation was kids between 10 to 13-year-olds!

So, not only was that a fun opening for people of all ages…

It’s also simple enough for the target demographic…

And the rest of the speech was equally well-suited for the audience.

You might’ve noticed there also wasn’t too much jargon.

But it did hit the right amount to keep the kids attracted to the topic of the presentation.

This is one thing I want you to keep in mind when doing your presentations.

Even though your content might remain the same for different speaking engagements…

Make sure to tweak your speech to really fit in with the audience you’ll be speaking to at any particular time.

These small adjustments make a huge difference to your impact…

And makes you better than so many other people who will be delivering generic presentations to different audiences!

Think about it this way.

Say, you’re presenting to a bunch of post-grads/

Surely, you won’t be using the same open…

The same jokes…

And the same questions…

As you would if you were to present the same content to kids in primary school…

Right?

So, before you go out there for your big presentation…

Check again the demographic of the audience you’ll be speaking to…

And make sure your speech has been tailored to fit them perfectly.

Now, if you need more actionable tips on how to prepare presentations for different audiences…

Just send us a DM, an email, or a call and I’ll help you out.

Cheers,

Carmen
