A Conversation With Holly Mullen

A Conversation With Holly Mullen

At J.Jill, we’re proud of the candidates we attract to join our team. Their passion for the business and support of our vision to live in a world where the totality of every woman is seen, valued and celebrated, is what makes working at J.Jill such an empowering environment to be in.

Over the next few weeks, we will share interviews with three District Managers who recently received our J.Jill Excellence Award. The award celebrates our top performing Retail associates for their exemplary leadership throughout the year. This week, we sat down with Holly Mullen, Senior District Manager, to hear more about her career.

J.Jill: Tell us about what you do here at J.Jill and what inspired you to join?

Holly: I joined J.Jill about five years ago as Senior District Manager overseeing 18 wonderful stores across Texas and Oklahoma. I was actually recruited by an old Manager of mine from Aeropostale, where I had previously worked for nine years. What’s kept me at J.Jill are our customers – I can’t speak highly enough about them. J.Jill encourages us to build meaningful relationships with our customers and communities, so our customers are incredibly loyal and end up loving us just as much as we love them!

J.Jill: We couldn’t agree more! What does a typical day look like for you?

Holly: Everyday is truly different! I like to tell people that I am in the business of people as I am constantly tackling new challenges to help my teams. For example, some days I help style customers, where other days I am helping my Store Managers learn something new to provide a better store experience. I work with a variety of teams across J.Jill, but nothing makes me more proud than seeing my teams learn new things and identify solutions on their own.

J.Jill: That sounds like a multi-faceted role! Is there someone at J.Jill that inspires or motivates you?

Holly: My Store Managers! They are the ones on the frontlines talking to customers and making it look easy (even though I know that’s not always the case). They inspire me to be a better leader for them. I am also grateful for my fellow District Managers – we truly believe that we win and lose as a team.

J.Jill: Taking a look back at your career at J.Jill, what advice would you offer someone looking to follow a similar career path?

Holly: Keep learning every day. This industry is constantly evolving, so be curious and ask a lot of questions. I also always tell my teams to not sweat the small stuff! Try to use the filter of “will this matter a year from now?” and that will help reduce a lot of stress in your work life.

Thank you, Holly, for the conversation! Want to join us? We’re hiring! Check out our latest roles here.
