The COPD assessment test and the modified Medical Research Council scale are not equivalent when related to the maximal exercise capacity in COPD pati

The authors demonstrated that CAT as well as mMRC are useful tools to predict exercise tolerance in COPD. Furthermore, in their patients CAT and mMRC were significantly related to dynamic hyperinflation on exertion and to exertional dyspnea and fatigue. However, they found that the agreement between the cutoff points of CAT (≥ 10) and mMRC (≥ 2) was poor, when related to maximal exercise capacity and, accordingly, they cannot be considered as supplementary measures.
