Copernilabs Newsletter: 2024 Review

The year 2024 ended on a very good note at Copernilabs. In this last Newsletter of the year, we take a look at the highlights at Copernilabs during 2024.

Technique

The beginning of 2024 was marked by the improvement work on the very first V0 version of ThuliumX. This version, trained on a Raspberry Pi 4 module, offered very limited performance in terms of latency (2 to 3 minutes) and accuracy (70%). The technical team has been working hard to improve performance by choosing high-performance hardware such as GPUs and training on various databases like those published on Roboflow Universe.

We switched from the Raspberry Pi 4 to the H100 GPUs, H200 GPUs, and Jetson Nano Orin GPUs for the Edge AI version, and used training platforms via accelerators such as Scaleway for startups and Northern Data's TAIGA Cloud. This work has enabled us to go from 70% accuracy on our algorithms to 95%, then to 97%, with a goal of reaching 99% by 2025. Similarly, we went from a latency of 2 minutes on the Raspberry Pi 4 to almost 1 second on the GPU.

In April 2024, the official launch of the first version of the ThuliumX platform (V1) took place, offering basic features for algorithm integration, data visualization, and sending alerts. This event was enthusiastically welcomed by an audience of distinguished guests (AI specialists, industrialists, etc.).

In June, we launched the first version of our advanced retail behavioral analytics algorithm to combat shoplifting, adaptable to security industries such as crime and assault in public spaces.

We have also improved the performance of our crowd management and vehicle detection algorithms, integrating license plate reading with advanced speed estimation and alert modules when critical thresholds are exceeded. These algorithms, trained on diverse and large databases, are among the best on the market in their category.

The launch of our Edge AI offer in August allows us to embed our algorithms in various sensors (cameras, robots, satellites, etc.) to reduce processing times. Several tests have been carried out on equipment provided by partners and customers. This hybrid cloud and edge approach gives us a unique competitive position and allows us to serve customers in both civil and defense settings, ensuring data privacy, privacy, and compliance with GDPR, AI Act, and other regulations.

- Northern Data AI Accelerator Launch Party in Berlin

- Forum Data & AI d'Oracle

- Forum "Photonics Excellence Day" de Systematic

- And many more

Strategic partnerships

Our work and progress have enabled us to sign strategic partnership agreements with several organizations (startup accelerators, manufacturers, customers, etc.). We can mention the integration with startup acceleration programs such as NVIDIA Inception, Scaleway, Northern Data AI Accelerator, AWS Accelerate. With manufacturers and/or customers such as InmotionGmBH, Videology, AXIS, Unitellas, IBS, EDB.

Human resources

The team has also been optimised with departures and arrivals. We have strengthened the technical team with the arrival of 3 new engineers, increasing the technical team from 2 to 5 people.

Recognition

Our work and achievements have been recognized by major players in the AI industry such as:

- Recognition of our participation in the enrichment of the databases of the Roboflow Universe platform

- Recognition of our pioneering work on Computer Vision and LLM convergence by the Tesla Motors Club community

- Our listing in the Scaleway Newsletter by AI Pulse By Scaleway among the players involved in the development of AI in Europe

Business Development

This progress has allowed us to sign our first POC and to work on several other pilots with public and private players both in Europe and in the rest of the world.

Work in progress and prospects

We continue to refine our algorithms and develop new ones, such as emotional and sentimental analysis models. We are diversifying our partnerships and continuing to spread and share innovation through our Newsletter, which has been a great success.
