Costco Spreads the Word on Engagement

I finally had time to catch up on some reading and while flipping the pages of the December issue of the Costco Connection, I noticed an interesting article, Recognizing employee disengagement...and taking steps to re-engage. While it was a quick summary, it provided some great tips on how to recognize the signs of employee disengagement. And, it focused on how front-line managers can follow some simple tips to re-engage their employees. The article's tips were from a new book by author, Ruth K. Ross. Her new book shared some practical tips, centered around the ALIVE framework.

A = ask to meet with employees informally - touch base to see how they are doing

L = listen to what is being said and what is not

I = identify 2-3 reaction steps you can commit to doing for your employee based on what was said during the meeting

V = validate with your employee steps to ensure you correctly captured what's important to the employee

E = execute the plan

Simple steps to follow! When managers communicate with their employees on a consistent, regular basis and truly demonstrate they care about them, amazing things can happen. And, the benefits of higher engagement often result in increased productivity, innovation, higher customer satisfaction and increased profits. Why don't you give it a try?
