This could be the death of TikTok... | The Friday Club | Ep 208
If one of the world's leading creators says this we should listen...
One of the most interesting pieces of content I consumed this week was this 23-second TikTok clip (cut from this 2-hour podcast interview with Mr Beast).
For those who don't know Mr Beast, he's a creator who has amassed around 200 million subscribers & he just turned down an offer of $1 billion for his business empire (Gary Vee says he thinks it's worth way more than $10 billion).
In the clip, Mr Beast says that YouTube Shorts could be the death of TikTok. Interestingly, we've been testing YouTube Shorts since May and the organic reach & engagement is crazy! It's one of the biggest opportunities for creators/brands right now (see data below).
Bonus: If you follow our vertical-video-first approach you can efficiently repurpose your content on Youtube Shorts!

In other news...
- I know I've banged on about YouTube Shorts a bit in this episode, but I honestly believe it's one of the biggest opportunities now. There's more people consuming content on there than the supply of content, so you can get a lot of reach & engagement, even if you have minimal subscribers (see image below from our Business Anchors YouTube channel).
- Does anyone known of any Marketing dashboard software that draws in data sources from all social media platforms, podcast (Apple & Spotify), email & google analytics? We’ve been using DashThis but it doesn’t connect to all of the above sources.
- This Tweet about Peleton made me laugh.
- We're doing a Halloween fun day at the end of the month & we have got to come up with costume ideas in pairs, that would work for 2 people. Do you have any ideas??
Thought for the day: Having breaks from alcohol is one of the biggest 'life hacks' you can try & here's why + some tips...
At the start of this year, my mate (who I've drunk alcohol with most weekends for the last 10 years) said he was giving up booze for a year.
I was in shock!
Who was going to get wavey with me at the weekends?
Who would be falling around in the kebab shop with me at 3am on a Sunday morning?
I was lost...
Then I thought to myself...
Wait a minute.
If he can do this, I can do at least a month off!
That month ended up being 2 months at the start of the year & I'm now in my fourth month of 2022 (I've been doing 1-month breaks every so often).
☑ I feel happier
☑ I feel healthier
☑ I feel like I have way more time
☑ I’ve saved money
☑ I’m a better Dad
And…I still enjoy drinking.
For me, having more regular 1-2 month breaks has been so good.
If you want an honest insight into mine and Lloyd’s experience of taking more regular breaks from alcohol & tips if you’re looking to do the same, listen to our 30-minute podcast on it.
Happy Friday!! ❤️

2yIt's going to be fun to watch the battle for sure. I love Tik Tok mantra to create Tik Toks not ads, and you see the difference in the user experience. But money talks and the new changes for advertisers and content creators on YT shorts might be too big to overcome as money talks. I am personally watching the B2B influencer space as micro creators of only 1,000 subs will look to get partner access with YT so the barrier has never been lower! I just hope the creative matches it in true #advertainment style

2yI’m a big fan of YouTube shorts - similar to tiktok, after posting consistently your average viewership per video increases over time :)
