As business developers, we all want to grow our business, but it can be challenging to know how to do so effectively. Oftentimes, we devote our time and energy to our work without ever taking a step back to assess what we've accomplished or where we're going. However, by quantifying our activities and achievements, we can gain valuable insight into our progress and make data-driven decisions to boost business momentum.

Setting measurable criteria for our activities and achievements is crucial to this process. For example, we may ask ourselves questions such as:

  • How many new contacts have I reached out to this week or last month?
  • How many emails did I write last week?
  • How many phone calls or video conferences did I make?

Similarly, we can track our achievements by asking ourselves questions like:

  • How many new connections did I make last week?
  • How many new partners did I form last month?
  • How many new orders did I close last week or this month?

By accumulating these figures and analyzing them on an easy-to-read dashboard, we can clearly see our progress, achievements, and setbacks. This information can then be used to adjust our next steps flexibly and instantly.

In addition to providing valuable insight, quantifying our activities and achievements can help us allocate our time and energy more effectively. Because our time and energy are finite resources, it is essential to use them in the most efficient way possible. By quantifying and qualifying our activities and achievements, we can gain a better understanding of our capabilities and set reasonable goals for ourselves and our team.

For example, we may ask ourselves questions like:

  • How many new connections must I make each month in 2021?
  • How many new partners must I form each quarter?
  • What is the minimum revenue I must achieve this year?

Quantifying and qualifying our activities and achievements is an excellent and simplified annual review and planning approach. By doing so, we can ensure that we are making progress towards our goals, and that our efforts are directed in the right direction. So, let's do it!
