Full Cord on Country Music News International Radio Show!
January 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 26th, 27th interviewed by Big Al Weekley!
When it comes to movers and shakers in the bluegrass world, Full Cord is a super-group on the rise. After winning the prestigious 2022 Telluride Bluegrass Band Competition in Colorado, the Michigan-based group followed that with another much-coveted honor when the International Bluegrass Music Association named Full Cord its “Momentum Award Band of the Year.” While mandolinist Brian Oberlin notes the band’s music “is new and fresh to the ears of seasoned bluegrass fans,” the bluegrass traditions in Full Cord have deep roots. The group’s members – Oberlin, guitarist Eric Langejans, bassist Todd Kirchner and fiddler Grant Flick – boast decades of musical artistry, with experience in popular performing bands from Michigan to Oregon. And with the recent addition of award-winning, Colorado-based banjoist Ricky Mier, Full Cord is poised to take the next step in its journey as a bluegrass powerhouse: The band’s debut album on Nashville’s Dark Shadow Recordings is set to drop in 2023. Full Cord’s songwriting has reached a new “tipping point,” Manager Katie Kirchner suggests, enhanced by the group’s vast repertoire and robust experience in numerous band projects over the years. And Oberlin insists the band is “just hitting its stride” – ready to follow in the footsteps of fellow Michigan bluegrass icons Billy Strings and Greensky Bluegrass as yet another star in the making.

Edgar Loudermilk Interview by Big Al Weekley for Country Music News International Magazine & Radio Show
Influenced greatly by his father and grandfather, Edgar Loudermilk cut his teeth on bluegrass by learning to play bass to the legendary record, "Bluegrass Album Band Volume 1." Surrounded by music at an early age, Loudermilk was only nine when he began playing bass in his family's band. He continued to play in his family's band until he was 20 years old when he joined the group Carolina Crossfire. Carolina Crossfire had quite a following in the Georgia area and it wasn't long before Loudermilk decided to expand his options and try his hand at playing professionally, a decision that has made him a staple for elite artists in bluegrass music. In 2001, Loudermilk auditioned for and was hired by Rhonda Vincent. About a year later, he was encouraged to audition for one of the greatest voices in country music who he had heard was making a move to bluegrass--Marty Raybon. In December of that year, Loudermilk became the bass player and tenor singer in the newly formed group Full Circle and would back up Marty Raybon for almost five years.

Devon Allman Interview by Big Al Weekley for Country Music News International Magazine & Radio Show
In late September of 2023, Devon Allman stood on the stage at Southern California’s BeachLife Festival, having just completed a massive summer tour, and setting a new world-record in the process. Flanked by his touring partner for the quest – Donavon Frankenreiter – as well as his reborn Devon Allman Project, Allman accepted an award for the monumental achievement of performing 50 concerts in the 50 states of America in 49 days. It was just the latest of Allman’s ambitious undertakings that have earned the veteran musician his place in the spotlight. The quintessential modern American troubadour, Allman is a Texas-born, singer-songwriter, guitarist, keyboardist, producer, and record label chief who spent his early years raised by a single mother, dividing time between the Lone Star State, Tennessee, and St. Louis, Missouri. Allman began playing music as a youth, and was 16 when he first met his father, Gregg.

Adam Chance, Home Free Vocal Band, Interview by Big Al Weekley for Country Music News International Magazine & Radio Show
Home Free was originally formed in January 2001 by Chris Rupp in Mankato, Minnesota, when some of its members were still in their teens. The five founding members were brothers Chris and Adam Rupp, Matt Atwood, Darren Scruggs, and Dan Lemke. They took their name from a boat owned by Atwood’s grandfather who helped support the group financially in their early years. The group began as a hobby for the singers, but they gradually grew in experience and popularity. By 2007 they had enough of a following to pursue music full-time. During this period, the Rupp brothers and Atwood formed the core of the group, with Atwood singing lead tenor. Other members of the group came and went. Current member Rob Lundquist, another Minnesotan, joined in 2008.

Mary McGuinness Interview By Big Al Weekley for Country Music News International Magazine & Radio Show
In 2020, Mary made her debut with Prodigal, an album that illuminated her influences and experiences. Through this album, she skillfully showcased her unique blend of lucid folk, rustic country, and Americana styles, establishing a musical identity that resonates deeply.
That same year, her creative spirit soared to new heights. She paid tribute to iconic artists such as Kenny Rogers and the rock band Bread through heartfelt covers. Unforeseeably, her rendition of Kenny Rogers’ “The Gambler,” coincidentally released on the very day Kenny Rogers passed away, added an extra layer of sentiment, intricately linking her Texan heritage to the legacy of the legendary musician.

As an artist, Bryan won Season 7 of the talent-search competition Nashville Rising Song, and released his debut single “Left Field” in June 2022. The song was featured on The TODAY Show and added to rotation on SiriusXM’s Country Pride, as well as the Academy of Country Music's Ultimate Pride Playlist. With rich vocals and authentic storytelling on follow-up singles “Two For The Road” (August ‘22), “The Standouts (October ‘22), “Christmas With You” (November ‘22), “Baseball Country” (March ‘23), and “The Standouts (Heroes Version)” feat. Ty Herndon (June ‘23), “Bryan’s introspective and relatable storytelling‘ (The Nash News) and “expressive baritone” (Music Row Magazine) give him a unique calling card in the up-and-coming Nashville country scene.

Growing up in Greenwich Village, Brooke was raised on the sounds of guitar strumming and voices rising through her bedroom window from Washington Square Park and the nightclubs below. She was drawn to music at an early age and at 8 years-old booked her first audition, landing the role of Young Cosette in Les Misérables on Broadway. That was the first of many successes on stage and screen.
