Covid is killing us at the rate of one large high school per day
Why are we losing the fight against COVID? We, Americans are losing this fight. We are LOSING!
Some may say we are NOT losing… I am an American, from Kansas, America’s heartland. We as American’s have always risen to the occasion to fight and defeat any and all threats, domestic and international, because we are smart, tough, and deeply patriotic. Everyone has heard the statistics that over 11 million American have contracted the virus so far and over 250 thousand people have died. Covid has killed more Americans than 5-times those of whom died in the Vietnam War. At this rate by this summer, more Americans will die from COVID than US deaths from World War 2. I was not alive during World War 2. So this is my World War and it is time for American’s to rise up again to fight. Fight likes it’s a World War, because it is.
My America is usually a global leader. We invented the Internet. We were the first to the moon. We have the strongest military. We defeated Hitler. We defeated Osama Bin Laden. But when it comes to defeating COVID we are NOT the leader. Many countries have outperformed America in controlling the number of cases and fatalities. One of America’s allies is Japan where they are embarrassing us with how well they are controlling COVID.
1 in 29 in the US have contracted Covid
1 in 1,001 in Japan have contracted Covid
1 in 1,319 in the US have died from Covid
1 in 65,625 in Japan have died from Covid
… which means that Japan is doing 35-times better than America preventing virus contracting
… and Japan is doing 50-times better than America from dying from the virus
No country should be doing 35 to 50 times better than us at anything, let alone controlling this virus. We should be doing better than all other countries because we can.
Obviously our federal leadership team will not acknowledge these facts because it makes us look bad, but this is a reality. Americans can deal with reality and defeat it with a vengeance if given the chance. I am a life long Republican and am not about to start bad mouthing our political party. This is about leadership for America and we as Americans need to act even if our leaders won’t.
The virus is running rampant in all 50 states as of today and there are (2) major events approaching fast that will inevitably accelerate COVID’s destruction, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Yesterday, about 1,500 Americans died from the virus and another 1,900 will die today, and yet another 1,900+ will die tomorrow. My high school size in Kansas was about 1,500 students. To me it is like the entire student body at my high school is dying every day. Every student and every teacher is dead.
I cannot standby and watch a high school’s worth of Americans die everyday anymore. If I could stop my high school from dying by simply washing my hands, wearing a silly little mask, keep my distance from people temporarily, I would easily and obviously do it. And I am. And so does my family and all of my friends. We are fighting to save American lives and am hoping that everyone does.
Perhaps Japan is defeating COVID because their culture is more obedient, disciplined, and strict; but America has strong values too that we should use more in this fight. From where I am from being American means living free and maybe that means not wearing a motorcycle helmet or not wearing a seat belt or even smoking a cigarette wherever you wish… but from where I am from being American also means being patriotic, being respectful to others saying “yes sir and no ma’am”, going to church and having empathy for others.
So this holiday season, I am wishing everyone the best, but am ASKING please fight to save American lives. Please wear a mask, never touch your mouth/nose/eyes with your hands if not clean, keep your distance from others. And for this Thanksgiving please spend with your immediate family only, avoid going to gatherings including going to church temporarily, and avoid large gatherings at home. Let's stop infecting each other with this virus. Russia is not infecting us, China is not infecting us, we are infecting each other.
I know this is not normal, nor easy, but it is American. To fight for what’s right, to save lives, to sacrifice in the near term for the sake of our country and our people. We are better than COVID, we are better than Japan, we are better than our leadership, we are Americans.
