Cracking the Karma Code: Unveiling the Myth of Cats & Bad Luck
Hello my dear blessed souls! Today we are diving headfirst into the fascinating world of feline superstitions. Get ready for a wild ride!
Now, we've all heard about the cat crossing your path being a bad omen, especially here in India. But hold on to your hats because, in this newsletter, we will dissect this belief, theory, or whatever you want to call it. And trust me, by the end of this, you'll be just as amused and surprised as I was when putting together this mind-blowing content.
I'm Ravi Nair, a Karma Management Coach and the founder of Rich Minds. I'm on a mission to help people redesign their Karmic blueprint, and create the destiny they want.
Now, let's talk about the star of the show – the cat. The one that hops around your neighborhood and which might also play a small role in shaping your destiny. Stick around to find out how.
By the way, the theory of cats crossing paths being a bad omen, has a deep connection with Karma.
So let’s understand, “What is Karma” and how we accumulate good or bad karma?
When your thoughts, words or actions emotionally trigger any living being you accumulate Karma. So if it triggers positive emotions you accumulate positive karma and vice-versa.
And when we talk about living beings, it includes - Birds, insects, animals, trees, human beings, as they have the same characteristics, like eating, breathing, reproduction, growth, and development, etc.
But since we are specifically talking about a belief associated with Cats, let’s look at the cat family which comprises of cheetah, leopard, tiger and other such cats who are considered to be very emotionally sensitive.
Which means they don't react well to sudden change. And that’s why you will notice that even in the forest, at the slightest intimidation they tend to attack and mostly it is in self-defense rather than to satisfy their hunger.
The same applies to domestic cats which you find in your neighborhood. They are very sensitive and often get anxious or frustrated by things abruptly changing around them or by the way, people interact with them. Researchers even found that they share the same emotions as human beings. So if you have two cats and if you fondle or cuddle one of them the other gets jealous.
Now if you go back to the definition of Karma it states, “when you trigger the emotion of any living being you accumulate positive or negative karma depending on the trigger”.
So, imagine you scare a cat while it's crossing the street – it gets anxious, stressed, and releases negative energy into the universe. And though you unintentionally caused it, but unfortunately you bagged some negative karma and sometimes you get it back instantly.

Now, why did someone float this theory that if a cat crosses your path it could be a bad omen?
Well, they knew that human beings being a bunch of selfish beings need a little nudge to do the right thing. So, if they had to say, "Hey, don't mess with that cat as it is emotionally sensitive”. You would not give a damm, so they said it’s a bad omen for human beings, because they knew humans will abide by it in the fear of causing harm to themselves and in the bargain would avoid causing any stress to the cat. Intelligent right?
So next time you see a cat gracefully walking across the road, let it pass by peacefully and this time not in fear, but out of sheer kindness and respect for a living being, and who knows, you might just add a sprinkle of positive karma to your cosmic bank account.
So think about this if suppose you are going to someone’s birthday and you have to give a gift and you are told that you will get back the same gift after 4 days. What gift would you choose knowing that it is going to come back to you. Obviously something good right?
Every thought, word and action is like a gift which you will get back maybe in a day, a week, a month, a year or decade. I cannot tell you when it will come back, but I guarantee you that it will come back. That’s why it is all the more important how you treat every living being, be it Human Being, Animals or even your environment.
Remember, You don’t get what you want, but you get what you deserve and what you deserve is decided by your Karma.
