Craig Smith Named Employee of the Year at 2024 Annual Awards Ceremony
At this year's annual awards ceremony for Guardian Life Limited, the highest honour for an administrative staff, Employee of the Year, was bestowed upon Craig Smith, Supervisor, in the Investment and Treasury Department (IATM in recognition of his exceptional performance, commitment to service excellence, and embodiment of Guardian Life's core values. This prestigious accolade celebrated Smith's invaluable contributions and the positive impact he has made on the organisation.
The Employee of the Year award is a testament to Smith's dedication, work ethic, and relentless pursuit of excellence in everything he does. His colleagues and peers admire his ability to consistently go above and beyond, tackle challenges head-on, and inspire those around him with his unwavering professionalism and positive attitude.

An obviously surprised and tearful Craig, expressed thanks to his colleagues, management team, the Company at large, and his family, particularly his two daughters, for the support they continue to give him towards the growth and development of his career.

Smith has been working at Guardian Life since December 1999 as a HEART trainee and subsequently became permanent in March 2001 in the Records Department. While in the Records Department, he served as an Information Desk Specialist, Loading Clerk, Records Clerk and Project Supervisor. In January 2005, he moved to the Financial Planning and Expense Control (FPEC) Department where he served as Accounts Payable Clerk until August 2009. He then moved to the IATM Department where he has held the positions of Senior Accounting Clerk and Team Leader and is currently a Supervisor.
His attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams were instrumental in driving success. Beyond his exceptional work performance, Smith's impact extends to the positive influence he has on company culture. He is known for his approachability, willingness to lend a helping hand, and genuine commitment to lifting those around him.
Smith's passion for personal and professional development is equally impressive. He actively seeks out opportunities to expand his knowledge and skills, embracing challenges as opportunities for growth and continuously striving to elevate his abilities to better serve clients and colleagues alike. In addition to his professional life, Craig is a strong proponent of fostering an active social life in the corporate space. He is a past member and Treasurer of the South Coast Optimist Club; Treasurer of Optimist International, Zone 5, Real Mona FC, and Guardian Life’s Social Club -Clubhouse Manager. He is also a member of the Company’s football team, and was named Most Valuable Player in the 2023 Insurance League finals.
