The Creative Approach Means There Can Be More Than 1 Answer
What if I told you that simply asking the right questions could radically change your business?
Creativity in leadership can lead to incredible leaps in innovation and increases in business value — all by taking the time to let wonder and rigor be a part of your company culture.
Learn how taking a creative approach could give you just the answers you were looking for as you’re seeking to take leaps forward.
How Wonder And Rigor Can Change Your Perspective
I’m often asked how my book The Creativity Leap handles the question of creativity in leadership. How does that even work? And what kind of feedback do I normally receive from companies with whom I work?
To start, it’s important to understand that when leaders are looking to find new innovations within their company, they often don’t take the time to let creativity be a part of the discussion and process. This is because there’s not a clear definition of what creativity is.
Creativity, as I define it, is the ability to toggle between wonder and rigor to solve problems, produce novel value and generate meaning .
The good news is it doesn’t take radical investments of money or restructuring to change how your business approaches problem-solving; it just takes showing up and listening differently.
Every person within an organization has the ability to let wonder and rigor impact how they show up and innovate. And changing the mindset of how your team does business can help you experiment with new and different ways of approaching things.
Leading With Creativity
In leadership, it’s also extremely valuable to model self-inquiry and to be open to the idea that there could be more than one answer to a problem.
When you leave space for younger or newer emergent leaders to share their ideas and ask questions of themselves and others, change starts to happen. And a small crack in the system can have a cascading effect on the larger system as a whole. That’s where the magic happens.
So, as you’re working to encourage creativity in your company culture, remember that it shouldn’t be siloed in the “creative department.”: everyone is creative. When given the chance, all members of your team will show up with wonder and rigor and transform your business for the better.
