Tips for Working at Home
Working from home is common in the CRO industry, but it comes with unique challenges, such as access to a myriad of distractions. Here are some practical tips to help you stay productive, maintain balance, and succeed while working remotely, along with examples of how I implement them in my workday routine.
Minimize Distractions – Avoid the temptation of household chores, TV, or social media during work hours. Use apps or browser extensions to block distractions if necessary. I use my phone's "Focus" feature to allow only work-related notifications during work hours.
Establish a Dedicated Workspace – Designate a specific area in your home as your workspace. Having a dedicated spot for work helps you mentally separate your professional and personal life. I work at my desk in my home office and avoid working on the living room couch to keep myself away from my dogs and TV, allowing me to better focus on the tasks at hand.
Set a Routine – Having a consistent daily routine helps create structure. Set specific work hours and stick to them as much as possible to maintain productivity and work-life balance. My routine includes taking my dogs for a walk during my lunch break, which allows all of us to stretch our legs and get some fresh air, leaving me energized for the rest of the day.

Maintain a Professional Presence – Ensure that you are reachable during work hours. Respond to emails and messages promptly, and maintain a professional demeanor even in a remote setting. When participating in video conferences, remember to dress as if you were in the office. If you're not dressed for a call, be sure to have a webcam cover to avoid any unexpected fashion faux pas.
